Grado Modders Go Ypsilon (Elleven Acoustica drivers and builds thread)

Fantastic. Are you planning to measure these? It would be wonderful if they could be added to your V7, Nhoord, Ypsilon S1 comparison. So many options!

    Is that a mk3 baffle with a mk2 driver?

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Yep, that's the way to go. Just don't stick anything onto the dampening paper, stick it around, over the driver assembly. I'd try to get my hands on stiff felt and a hole puncher, I'd try a square of 2mm stiff felt with a hole punched, aligned with the hole on the stock paper. This will reduce...

That completely surpasses my skill set, but you may have some luck with something like this.

Fostex T50RP Incremental Mods and Measurements

Wow, looks like some debris may have shorted the traces, try cleaning it up with isopropyl alcohol and measure the impedance again. Be extra careful when reassembling, the glue holding the magnet assembly together tends to lose its strength and the magnets could fly and snap against the other...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

To make it behave more linearly. Think a more linear frequency response. Little dampening = more bass, wonky mids, recessed treble. More dampening = less bass, more linear to elevated mids, sometimes spiky treble. I'm not sure about reflections, but the least sharp T50RP I've modded doesn't...

Just listened to some Fostex T50RPs today... WOW!

Yep. In a much smaller sense than it appears. The mk3 is pretty decent-sounding and it features zero cup dampening. I wouldn't go overboard on this. Same as above, if anything, dampening the baffle will lower distortion in the bottom octave. I would this as a finishing touch if needed...

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Yep, the sweet spot lies between 4 and 8 vents taped IMO depending on the listener. Absorbing materials at the bottom of the cups (being careful that they do not interfere with the back of the driver directly) will net a slight clarity increase in the midrange/treble. Downsides?, perhaps...

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Flat = T40RP Fun = T50RP Bassy = T20RP Be aware that you can turn a T20RP into a T50RP by adding some cup vent damping and vice-versa, but you cannot turn a T40RP into anything else unless you remove the piece of plastic that is heat-fused to the cup vents, which can turn out ugly if you're not...

Definitely taping the baffle ports (ear side) should be your first consideration, that will increase bass in general. To reduce bloom you can fine tune cup venting, a small vent (1-3mm) will help.

Tune to taste, not everyone experiences a ~15 dB gain @ ~3 KHz because of anatomical differences, keeping in mind you might be used to darker headphones. The treble peak needs to be addressed in my opinion, I'd broaden the compensation to the 8 and 12 KHz bands with the stock pads.

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Those are uncompensated measurements that show all ear-related gains of the HATS apparatus, there is supposed to be a large hump around 3 KHz (~12 dB) because that's where the main ear resonances lie, and you don't really want to cancel those because that's the way we hear everything. The other...

    Official Schiit Vali 2 Thread

Does it happen in both channels? Perhaps the contact between the jack and plug is rusty and has limited bandwith. Try cleaning the plug with isopropyl alcohol and test again, there are recurrent contact problems with the cup jack.

You will find these are quite easy to tune once you figure out the 'actors', I'm working on some mods that I plan to publish once I find the time, feel free to PM me if you have any details to discuss.
