I would like to know if the ES500 is made in Japan.

They are.

There is so much good stuff coming from Japan at the moment.

Oh you have seen that written on the box? I used to have a ATH-ES55 and that was made in China. But it would be better if the succesor ES500 was really made in Japan.

So why does almost every single seller here say that it ships from Japan??

Here's some more info I found about the ES700. The 42mm drivers were custom made for the ES700. The cord is 1.2 meters long (3.9 feet). The headphones themselves come with a pouch and a cleaning cloth. The headphones swivel in order to lie flat. The headband is very light for comfort. The plug is a regular 3.5mm L-shaped plug and the impedance is 36 ohms. the ES700 weigh 160 grams (5.64 ounces) not including the cord.

Here's some info about the ES500. Instead of having stainless cups like the ES700. It's made of aluminum. I does not come with a cleaning cloth like the ES700, and the 40mm drivers are not made specifically for the ES500. The ES500 weigh 120 grams (4.23 ounces) not including the cord.

All the information here was translated from the Japanese AT website.

For comparison's sake, the HD 25 Originals (adidas branded) weigh 161 grams (5.7 ounces) which means the ES700 is just about the same weight.

I guess they are to be compared to the ES7 :

Driver Diameter 42 mm
Magnet Neodymium
Voice Coil Copper clad aluminum wire
Frequency Response 5 Hz - 30,000 Hz
Maximum Power Input 1,000 mW
Sensitivity 100 dB/mW at 1 kHz
Impedance 32 Ohms
Cable 1.2 m (4 ft), OFC, Y-type
Connector 3.5 mm (1/8") mini stereo, gold-plated
Accessories Included Protective pouch; cleaning cloth

Characteristics are almost the same. Hope the drivers are really new and better. Visually they look similare but headband looks very comfortable on the 700, cable looks a little different and has an "L" shaped jack instead of the straight one of the ES7,I hope it is stronger. Folding mechanism is exactly the same as the ES7 too and wheight is the same.

Done about 20 hrs of research the last few days into a good pair of portables. I was pretty much down to the ES7 and M-80 and saw these so decided to give them a shot and ordered. Mostly will be used while sitting at the poker table so I don't want complete isolation but I want to avoid as much leakage as possible as I also got an E11 and don't want to bother ppl around me. Hope these turn out as well as expected.

Will these be released outside of Japan? Although they look sexy as hell, ~$200 + $20 shipping is a bit much for me. For that price I could be getting a DT1350, which would be fine if they sound comparable to the ESW9 or ES10... but at this point no one knows what they sound like.
