Just to clarify, when you folks are saying 50 on the volume do you mean 50 as on the actual volume scale on the player which goes from 0-75 or 50 meaning halfway between 0-75?

I am 50 next month and just had my annual hearing check up and I can hear frequencies up 21Khz still so have pretty good hearing. Depending on which headphones I use my volume setting when listening directly out of the 120 varies between 40-55 on the scale of 0-75.

40 for the Heaven S and around the 55 mark on most tracks for the DT1350's. I think an important thing to note here is what type of music folks are listening to as well. Is the music heavily compressed at the mastering stage, if so your going to listen at lower volumes as the sound is already boosted.

All of my HDTT recordings are very quiet as little or no compression has been used in the mastering of them so they need higher volumes on the player. Conversely one of my rips from a compilation Dire Straits CD though not bad needs far less volume to achieve the same listening levels!

I was referring to the volume on a 0-75 scale. Listening through a jh16 my volume never exceeds 40. 26 for the more compressed songs and around 32-35 for hd tracks. And 40 for those very soft songs but hardly the case.

I set mine to 45-50 with TG!344 when outdoors and down to 40-45 when indoors.
Music is mostly normal FLAC or hi-res FLAC

Wow that is pretty loud for the 334.... The only things near as sensitive to those were the 8As and the IE80s...

With hybrids like 1p2 or asg2, I was using 45/75 outdoors and around 40 indoors.

And I don't have sensitive ears and already can't hear anything above 18k

Thanks guys, I am feeling better about the volume i listen at now. I have always thought I listened at moderate levels ( must do as I have been a daily user of headphones for over 33 years now so must be doing something right to keep my hearing the way it is!)

My most sensitive IEM's are not as sensitive as the JH16's so I think I am about right, The DT1350's are hungry beast so require more juice for the same levels.

Some of the late teens and early 20s users of AK120 and TG!334 over here in Singapore that I know normally use the volume level of around 30-35 only, so I know mine is abnormal

Going from comparisons with the 8As. I found the 334s just slightly more sensitive than them. Probably not by much at all though. I'd listen to the 8A around volume 25 on the stock AK120. Going much over that and it got too loud and too bassy. So generally the low to mid 20s. With the 334 I would guess around low 20s for me. With the 1Plus2 generally mid 30s. With the Flat 4 and SE5 it would be around mid 40s. If using the IEMs out in public I'd probably raise the volume 4 to 5 more but I try to avoid that if at all possible because that isn't helping out my ears lol.... Anyways in such situations I'd rather be mindful of my surroundings. Otherwise I'd be much more apt to use the SE5 to block out noise. The 1Plus2 is half decent at blocking out noise. The 8As where the best at that. I think the extremely boosted bass really did the trick with isolation .

When was the last time you tried the 334? I thought it was back in January, before the AK120 was released?

I'm listening to the AK120 and TG!334 at around 35, and I turn up the volume to 38 when on Miracles, mostly for outdoor environments. The TG! 334 is really sensitive though, noticeable hiss when no music is playing.

I use MH335DW with AK120 and usually will set the volume to around 40. If I use it as DAC, with 24/96 res, listening to BD with DTS-HD, will set the volume to 43-44...

I've just installed iRiver Plus4, can this be used to edit id3 tags? What's the best way to edit these on the AK120?
 
Coming from iTunes i'm really not liking plus4 initially......why does it have to scan every time I connect the device? Annoying!
 
Also, how do you search for files on the device? I can only see the search box in the main display window and not the pop up window when the AK120 is connected.
Also annoying that the device isnt listed on the left hand side under 'Computer' ??
 
Quite frustrating so any advice much appreciated.

1, don't bother with +4, just uninstall it and get dBpoweramp instead.
2, you should see your AK120 listed as a drive when you pick the option when you connect it.

I actually have dbpoweramp but didn't know it could be used for this! I've only ever used it for converting FLAC files to ALAC when I had my iPod.

dBpoweramp install a very nice tag plug-in for your Windows Explorer interface, so you can just edit your tags that way.
