The sound quality on the AK120 is lovely but the battery is likely to be close to end of life so you're going to have to find a replacement. Have you considered doing an upgrade of the hard drive on the iPod to solid-state and then running Rockbox? This will give you FLAC support and a load of other cool features.

As an owner of AK120 Titan, I have to say, probably not. The sounds just wont compete with many players we have in the price range nowadays.... I dont know where you live or the pricing in your location, but in Hong Kong (where i live) a Sony ZX300 (brand new) cost HKD3350 (around €380) before tax, and sound way better than a AK120 after installing MrWalkman's CFW (please refer to the thread https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-walkman-custom-firmware-non-android.943661/ ), in addition the UI of AK120 isnt that great TBH, unless you really need a device with such a small footprint, I would suggest you consider other alternatives available.

My guess is you are in some place in EU where the tax is heavy, you may be able to find much better deal for preowned devices on here (Head-fi) or eBay.
