I believe the SE846's stock cable is a nickel-plated copper of sorts, while the your JVCs have an OFC (oxygen-free copper) cable. I'm not aware of the properties of the OFC cable, but it might just be a better than the Shure's stock cable. Please note that many of the SE846 owners on the forums are using aftermarket cables of their own, which further enhances the SE846. I'm personally using a OCC Silver Litz cable, which opens up the sound stage, tightens up the bass, and enhances clarity at the loss of a little bass quantity. Moedawg is another person who's using this cable. The are also members who are using OCC copper cables, which focuses on enhancing the lower spectrum.
