When I first realized what sound quality was I bought and returned a ton of cans from Best Buy including those or some of the eH line. Didn't love the sound so I kept looking and I don't remember liking the fit either.

My Martin customs are waiting when we got home from holiday travel yesterday, and my next door neighbor stopped in, and wanted to have a listen, so I put on Pink Floyd's 'Burning Bridges'. He had a huge smile as he sat there with his eyes closed, occasionally pointing toward where he was hearing the instruments and vocals coming from.

My wife (who loves music, but doesn't quite "get" the audio gear thing) wanted a listen this morning, so I put a couple of tracks on. When she took them off, she was talking about the "presentation of the vocals and percussion", and it was all I could do to keep from cackling.

Headed back to MA again in February, this time with these in tow, so I'm looking forward to a few more of these experiences, particularly my father, who used to be really into audio gear in the 70s, and a close friend of mine who loves music.

I know that. But eH 350 has been infamous for it's constant mutation on the sound profile.... I think I've read the review somewhere in this forum. He almost threw his eH 350, but decided to stick on it for a while. Well, the cans mutated again to his preference. Weird huh?

So i went to the store and picked up a pair of JVC Flats since they didn't have what i was looking for, i tried the Bob Marley headphones and finally Bose.
 
I came to the realization why people so often don't appreciate the finer cans.
 
1. You need a good source to begin with.
2. You have to take the time to really notice the difference, all of the phones i tried today sound "good" or at least "good enough" (but certainly not worth $300 in the case of the Bose) so people are just indifferent. SQ isn't that important to them, listening to your tunes is just listening to your tunes.
 
Don't even bring up amplification to them or EQ, they will probably just ignore you or fall asleep.

How do you like the Perfect Wave DAC? How would you compare it to the others you've heard? It's one of my considerations.

I've had friends give the occasional "whoah.." That's always nice.
I've also had people tell me they just get absorbed by the clarity of the music.
 
This was with the Denon D1100s, so I wonder what they would say if they heard a high end pair of headphones with a proper amp.

Finally got my HD 558s today, just kinda wanted a full set of cans since I've only been an IEM guy. Put them on my moms head through my iPhone, she repeated the word wow probably 4 times within the first 20 seconds of the song. Then after she held her hands out wide and said, wow their really wide sounding, very spacious. I later tonight put them through our iMac and the bass is way better, miles even. Can't wait until I get my Fiio E11, I'll have an actual headphone amp, I can't wait to here em then!
 
On a side note, back boxing day I got my mom to buy Shure SE215's, she loves them

i am also looking forward to those i am a bassy fun person so those should fit me the cool high end look of the SE515's should also do wonders when i'm waking down the hall in between classes.
