I hate my LCD-2's and my Schiit Lyr (after a couple tube rolls) & Apogee Duet DAC. Before this happened, I had UPS packages to await almost constantly, and a constant stream of sexy new gear. Now, maybe I'm easily pleased, but I feel like everything else would be a side-grade, or a zillion dollars for 50 cents more audio information. I'm totally kitty-whipped by this setup. Life is hard. Maybe it should all be about design, maybe Dr. Dre is ahead of the curve - "LCD-2 Ferrari Edition with Red Carbon Fiber Cups" or "Schiit Lyr Lady Gaga Edition with Embedded Corn, Peanuts, and Silver Metallic Neoprene-encased Housing". Where do we go from here?

I could tell you more about the Dr. Dre headphones than you would care to know...

My tube amp is the same. It has a 100 kOhms volume pot in its input. I will be modifying my amp, I'll remove the volume pot since my source has a digital volume control also.

You might want to re-think that before you do it...

Its just a vol pot. The only thing I'm thinking about is the coupling cap. Perhaps I should put a small resistor in the signal path too.

What kind of "digital" volume control does your source have?

Actually my dedicated source is an Oppo BDP-95. It has a 2v max output.

So where is your "system" volume level control going to come from?

I'm just converting the amp into a basic amp. It has a single input. I don't have a preamp. So its single input is my only source, the BDP-95. Once I remove the vol pot, it will be a dedicated amp with a single source, until such time as I get a preamp.

I don't think we're communicating too well.  Please excuse my ignorance, but how are you going to control the volume of your system?

Just ordered a pair of LCD-2's to go with my Red Wine Audio Isabellina HPA. I pretty stoked.

And I have a Red Wine Audio (balanced) Isabellina HPA coming for my LCD-2's! Equally stoked!
