But the USB Audio Recorder Pro app is very limited in its playback features. You can only manually select one song at a time, and then either hit play to replay that one song,  or go search for another song to listen to.

Edit: I see they have a new 5.8 inch model that has Android 4.0....but it would have to be a great price to compete with the tablets out there now.

What was the original question to Supercurio?  His response looks a bit harsh considering those of us who are just trying to improve the sound not making any statements of this being the best sounding with these portable/budget dac/amps.  And funny that he did so much work on the Galaxy S series with Voodoo sound but never released anything for the S3 Int'l.  Apparently, Samsung did a good enough job on implementation so there was no need for a Voodoo tweak is what I remember reading somewhere.

I know that you're probably wondering why I (and others) don't downgrade to stock ICS or CM9. I think the reason is that with all the new features and improvements that Jelly Bean brought, it's simply not worth going back to ICS just for the ability to use a DAC with one's phone.
 
If it helps I'm currently on CM10.1 (Android 4.2.1) latest nightly and with a DAC that's compatible connected the phone actually recognizes the usb device as an USB DAC but produces no sound. I used "dmesg" in the android terminal.

I got an iBasso D-zero for Christmas and I'm really satisfied with it, both the amp/dac is far better than my Macbook and improves the sound significantly. Another great plus is the size, it's tiny!
May I ask what kind of headphones you were using? Because the benefit of an amp really depends on how difficult they are to drive, i.e impedance.
Anyway, thanks for the reply, it's a shame that you won't investigate into the usb audio functionality as i don't think I would be THAT hard considering that the phone already recognizes the device as an usb dac, not that I would know, just a guess.
PS. I got the iBasso from their website for about 100 dollars, It's worth a try!

EDIT: I actually did downgrade to CM9 (ICS) but I still can't use my USB dac, just a heads up for those who consider downgrading. Haven't tried stock though.

According to the USB specification, Micro-A plug and Micro-B plug should have different shape. 
 
But the key stuff is that for USB host / USB peripheral role switching purpose, the OTG Android device senses only the ID pin which is grounded (i.e. pin 4 aka ID pin connected to pin 5 aka GND pin) on all Micro-A plugs  and floats on all Micro-B ones
 
If it is not the case, Lindy should not advertise it as a Micro-A plug.

Standard USB audio is enabled on stock ICS-powered S3 as well as on stock Jelly Bean-powered S3.
 
It was also enabled on some early release of CM10 according to the following post:

I've also contacted codeworkx (one of the creators of Cyanogenmod) and sadly he won't implement USB audio either. He hates the GS3 and doesn't have the proper equipment to test it out.

 
He could use a cheap standard USB DAC which interworks with the stock S3:

I have a Note 1 also. I think the answer is, you can't do it with Samsung firmware and you can't do it with Cyanogenmod or other mods right now. And AFAIK no coders have signed up for this. The hardware could do it but nobody can be arsed to integrate the kernel drivers into the software.

OK wait, he says Note 1 doesn't work. And the developer OWNS a Note 1. Might be worth contacting him for details. He might have said Samsung deliberately crippled him on those devices. There is a chance that say, cyanogenmod + USBAudioRecorderPRO would work. I've been waiting for a stable build http://get.cm/?device=n7000 and also for my cables to arrive.

Damn this is bad news. I mean if it means I have to get a Note 2 for USB Audio to work, its a let down.. It literally makes portable USB DAC/AMPs useless, does not it? 
 
Did you look into custom ROM to make this work? If they say the hardware supports it, it should be a matter of upgrading the OS to make it work, technically...

I'm happy to be corrected in any of this, but... I don't see the Note 2 as bad news. It should work right out of the box. Just need a USB OTG micro cable and a DAC. Don't need firmware mod, don't need USBAudioRecorderPRO The bad news was for Note 1. There is an outside chance Note 1 can work if you put BOTH cyanogenmod AND USBAudioRecorderPRO but nobody has tested that yet.
