You want a British 6V6, try a Brimar. A bit "tubey" for some, but a classic, rich, almost technicolor mid-range that is the essence of what many people seek in a tube.

I may be the only one here, but I am not a fan of the Bendix 5992. Compared to something like an RCA black plate, it's got a sort of hard, "steely", almost solid-state edge to it.

The most common NOS are of course the JAN Phillips. These are the survivors of one of the last large tube buys of the US military in the 1980's. They are good and very rugged tubes, better than any modern production I've heard. However they are not the equals of the better brands from the "classic era" of tube production (self defined by me as 1935-1965).

There are tons of great 6V6 and a lot of sonic variation. Few tubes are more fun to roll.

I'm a fan of the French Mazda and Visseaux. The reference classic is of course the 40's-50's RCA  black plate.

My $.002. YMMV.

i'm check on some brimar, mazda and rca later(still recovering from this purchase).

and bendix 5992, i'll try that later but will be after trying all the 6v6g(big bottle).  i always refer the big bottle from my experience with 6as7/6080.  i never like the small bottle(6080).

Agree about the Bendix, but still a very detailed sound! You've got to try Toshiba 6v6GT also.... Great sound! I also have Toshiba 6SN7 in first in line. But with Studio Six you can't go wrong that quick!!! I even did try Mullard GZ37 (indirect heated) instead of GZ34 (direct heated) and still Studio Six produces a beautiful sound. Call me a fanboy !!!

i have experience with gz37.  actually my favorite with my wa5.  not a clear favorite over gz34 but i do enjoy the gz37 a lot.  one thing, gz37 doesn't last very long.   if using on s6, it should only last even less, am i right?  does s6 get hotter using gz37?

and studio six is a beautiful sounding amp.  i like it so far.

I have tried Mullard OB2, Raytheon (nice glow) and Sylvania (green print). I've decide to keep the Sylvania (as long as they will last). Soundwise they complete the soundstage I like!

The Studio Six is a wonderful amp! I am putting it through its paces now. Here is a shot from this morning.

I am running Amarra 3.03 and iTunes via a MBP through my Wyred $ Sound DAC2 DSDse and a Light Harmonic 10G split cable. HD800's, LCD-X's and Alpha Prime's are in the mix. I also swapped out the 5AR4 for a USAF-596. Better bass plus it is a visual treat too!
