AKG K3003 High End 3 Way System Headphone

It's kinda funny cuz the SE846 is probably the weakest of the big 3 yet it gets the most attention. The K3003 is technically the most impressive followed by the IE800. The IE800 is a nice middle ground with very little weaknesses and is the bargain right now in terms of price. But yeah all three are great. I have no idea why the K3K isn't getting more attention, just one of those Head-Fi mysteries.

To reiterate - head-fi telephone. A good amount of people who've defamed the K3K haven't even heard the damn thing. If you've heard it, and hate it, fine. No one phone can appease all as even the HD800 has got scads of haters. It's just the parroting that's annoying. I guess it's just got a special brand of scarlet lettering set aside for it is all.

stopped wondering long ago why the k3003 isn't more highly regarded here. head-fi is a fickle place is all. still marvel over how righteous sounding this earphone is.

When I was researching the AKG K3003 vs. the Sennheiser IE800 and Shure SE846, I read each of the 2+ years of posts on their respective "impressions" thread.

For the AKG K3003 (which I ended up choosing), I noticed that an astounding number of folks who wrote intelligently and well about it were subsequently BANNED from head-fi.org (don't know if by their own request or by that of others!).

I dubbed the K3003 the "IEM of the iconoclast!"

Yeah, and I always thought he was too shy about voicing his opinion!

Just joined this club. Ordered the K3003 (non-mic version). Should be here in a few days.

I bought them from Accessoryjack for $970 + $26 express shipping = $996 total

They're based out of Hong Kong and so they have the Asian Market non-mic version. And the price is quite competitive as well. I also own the SE846 + IE800, so now I've completed the trio I've always wanted. Like I said in this thread I think the K3003 is perhaps the strongest contender of the three IMHO.

So I've had the K3003 in the house for about 48 hours now.

Initial impression is that it makes the SE846 and IE800 sound like a joke

I sense a great disturbance in the Boards.

...

His Shill-dichlorian levels are greater than Master Muzak's!

I sense great misdeeds in you Advertorial Swindlewalker. We've been waiting for the emergence of the One to guide this thread in the direction of expensive motorbikes, Justin Bieber and sonic turds. You must resist the dark side and make no mention of coherency and technical superiority. When doubt clouds your judgement, do not stray from the one true path. Refer to the fancy packaging. Our irrelevance depends upon it.

May the Boards be against you

Only small downside is that with ROCK or music where there are a lot of things happening at once (not sure how to explain), it can sound a bit thick and the airiness/clarity isn't as good (compared to my LCD-X or EX1000)

If this is true, then I think the EX1000 is more suitable for symphony and orchestral work.

I believe the K3003 sounds better than the IE800, although the K3003 can be a bit too harsh sounding/bright at times, along with the bass dynamic driver sometimes sounding audibly slow in decay compared to the mids/highs. The IE800 can sound more warm and "organic" in that regard (vs. the K3003i), but the K3003i still has a more detailed and refined presentation overall.

Still, with a very good DAC/amp setup, I think the IE800 can come close to the K3003i.

That's close to how I heard the k3003, although for me the ie800 comes out ahead since the driver differences on the k3003 got in my way. It's true that the ie800 requires a powerful source or an amp to shine.
