V-MODA Crossfade 2 Wireless - We Discuss It With Val Kolton - Head-Fi TV

I was listening to Alison Krauss' song "When You Say Nothing At All" during this comparison. It was an MP3 at 192 kbps, ripped from the original CD I bought back in the '90s and converted to MP3 during my big "CD Collection Project" in 2001. My dad had it on his iPhone, and it was the one I sampled during the wireless / wired-from-the-same-source comparison.

I'm not really sure if I could tell a difference at all in the SQ. I totally know that even if there was a variation, I couldn't appreciate the difference. Just like comparing MP3 @ 192 kbps versus WAV/FLAC ripped from the original CD.

And I completely stand by what I said about the hiss. Maybe not all of the CFW1s are created equally? Who knows.

1)  There is definitely a hiss from the internal AMP when no music is playing and the headphones are paused.  You'll hear it for 7-8 seconds and then the AMP goes to "sleep" until you resume your music.  When there are quiet spaces in music, you can hear the hiss, which is likely due to the powerful AMP (like I said before, I only turn the volume up 2-3 clicks).  However, because the hiss is even and not noticeable for most of the music I listen to, it's not an issue for me.  There is no hiss when wired.

2)  Wired sound on the CFW1 does sound more clear and "open", but it's not a huge difference, so I still prefer the convenience of wireless.  The sound signature is basically unchanged, although again, it doesn't sound exactly the same in terms of overall audio quality.

FYI, Rose Gold is now available again on Amazon.com with One-Day Shipping.

After you cut the wire do they let you keep the headphone?

(this comment applies to m-100 only, the CFW wont work with this)

They will work with balanced or mono inputs over stereo .. like some Denon replacement cables would work after the cut, but you need the m-100 because you need to then plug in both cups, mandatory.

I could see them knowing people would be able to figure this out and still making you turn them in though..

I'm pretty sure you have to send them back

It's just proof that you own what you say you own. Cutting the wire I assume shows them you're serious about sending it in before they give you the half off coupon. They ask for the date etc on video to confirm you didn't use someone else's proof.

OK guys, just got them and going to try them out.  I'll spend a few hours with them, go to the gym, and then A/B with the CFW1.

Right off the bat, I can tell you the headband is a bit wider and redesigned.  The earpads are thicker and a mid-density memory foam.

I'll just be here hitting refresh on my browser. Can you say if the buttons are more tactile this time around? I dislike how mushy they are on the CFW1s.

The tactile feedback on the CFW2 is better.  I'd rate it 3 out of 4 stars, while the CFW1 would be at 2.5 stars for me.

The white looks great, did you get any extra shields?

No, I got it thru Amazon, so it's just the headphones.  Plus, I didn't really want to wait longer and I kinda like the look out of the box.  I like the matte silver arms and gray earpads, which I think gives it more "flavor" than the matte black (which is normally what I go for).  I definitely think they look better in person.

Still testing these out and am headed to the gym here in a bit.  I've been listening to these while working, so haven't had a chance to do a serious A/B in a quiet environment.

Awesome! Will be looking forward to your findings. Not a fan of the thicker headband as I like the slim profile the CFW provides. Edit quoted wrong person.

I watched it, he said he couldn't hear much of a difference between 1 and 2, but he liked them both better than the M-100's

Sounded to me like he enjoyed the CFW1 more than the 2. The new one appeared to lack the bass punch of the first. He compared the sound of the new ones in Bluetooth mode to the sound he was getting from the M100s wired, which is odd to me since the M100s are very punchy. I like the guy's interest in V-moda, but was ultimately disappointed that he never put a wire into the 1 or 2. Someone in the comments section mentioned that to him, so maybe he'll update it.
