Thanks cskippy for the re-post - I suppose I should've mentioned that I tried the crimping fix, and although it helped, it's still wonky.  For instance it fixed the drop outs when I turn my head but it still occasionally drops out when my head is mostly still.  Maybe I just need to crimp with more force, but I'm not sure I want to risk it.

Having previously owned the HE-500 with Jerg pads, which were an improvement, I would still take the M1060 with my mods (Audeze pads and paper towel circle behind driver).  With these mods you get the great bass extension and better sub bass compared to HE-500 with a little more mid bass emphasis, something most planars are missing.  Mids when modded are very good as is the treble which is smoothed out considerably.  I think they do a better job at sound stage, especially depth, where sometimes HE-500 was to left right for me.  Another issue I had with the HE-500 was the 10kHz peak that would give air and sizzle but was unrealistic and could be fatiguing.  These impressions are all with my modded pair.  Stock for stock I would probably take HE-500.

Thanks !!

M1060 price now up at $399 on both Amazon & buydig.

Of interest is a fellow posted on reddit that he bought 2 sets brand new and they sound much different. His post says one set has the mids sucked out, but not the other.

When mine arrived, I did not have any of the plasticizer smell many said theirs had (like new car interior smell); it did take about 7 days from purchase date until I received mine.

Just some interesting info.

Interesting.  I'm guessing there will be driver variation much like Audeze models.  I'll be able to measure my friends when he gets his after Monoprice has them in stock.

Let us know how the 2nd set measures !

Monoprice site still shows $299, but out of stock as we know, interesting to see if they keep their price when restocked.

Funny how Beach (buydig) site and them also thru Amazon bounced them up an extra $100. Maybe as early adopters we did all right !

Yes, Vegan pads and 1 sheet paper towel, I used Bounty Select-A-Size Paper towels, 1 sheet cut out to 7.5mm or just over 3 inches.

Thanks !! I'm thinking I'll wait to put on my vegan pads received today and try the paper towels as I have 2 cracks and will wait for a replacement. I'm wondering if Monoprice will let us keep/use the headphones until they're ready to ship the new ones out. I guess because they're under warranty that we have up to 3 or 5 years to claim ??

These actually have more bass stock than any of the Audeze's I owned (LCD2/LCD2F/LCDX/LCD3). Also more than the Focal Elear which I recently demoed.

This is one of the things that really stands out for me, they have legit strong (and impressive) bass response for an open back planar. Very enjoyable for EDM.
