Beyerdynamic A200P High-End Portable DAC

Funny thing is...with the SR80e I felt like there was a bigger difference then with the PS500e. No idea why though.

With both I do hear a difference in general, and like I said I was going to keep them...but I can't say that the difference was a $300 difference.

I'm also suspicious of what exactly is going on with the A200p controlling the iPhone's volume. Seems to me like maybe the software volume adjustment should be locked and the software EQ shouldn't work if the iPhone's internal DAC and Amp are being bypassed.

Of note...the sound quality was different when listening to the same music from my computer's digital out.

So that brings me to the question: Is the DAC in the A200p actually being used when paired with an iPhone? And if it is, why would the same music sound clearer when listening out of the computer's digital out? Why does the iPhone's Software EQ still work?

It's a puzzling device.

Yes it is.

Apple's EQ and other processing occurs in the digital domain.

EQ?

In an iPhone, yes they offer EQ.  It's DSP based on their own idea of what makes something sound good, but it is EQ and the digital output when using the Apple Music player is effected by the EQ settings.

You didn't get my point.

Still haven't heard from Beyerdynamic regarding the cable. I'm thinking the amp is just going to be returned.

I already requested a return from Amazon but was holding off to see if maybe they would come through.

This is the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Two people have neglected to return my calls or to email me. It's not a hard question...are you going to replace the cable or not? I'm really beside myself at this point. Not what I expected from a company that comes highly recommended by Head-Fiers.

Hang on in there mate, are you located in US?  If so, when you go to http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/headphones-and-headsets/mobile-portable/a-200-p-us.html - on the right side there is a contact info (email and phone) of Beyer sales manager.  Pete will go above and beyond to help you, please contact him ASAP.

I got an email from them today but haven't heard back yet. Going to give it a day or so and see what happens.

Interestingly enough...when I first started looking at headphones I pre-ordered the limited edition blue M50x...I had planned to cancel the order because I auditioned them and didn't like the sound quality.

I forgot to cancel the order and the showed up yesterday...I just tried the on my computer with the A200p and I hear a much bigger difference then I did with my Final Audio Heaven VI and the Grado 500e.

Do you mean bigger difference with and without A200p from the same source?  Yeah, A200p brings bass alive, and pairs up fantastically with T51i and M50x (though mine are just plain black )  And I absolutely love big volume dial!!!

Just heard back from Pete Carini at Beyer North America.  Even though Beyer's website says the 30 pin cable is not compatible with the iPod Classic, Pete tried the cable with his Classic and it worked.  Based on his comments, I've placed an order for the cable and will test it with my 160 GB 7th Gen. Classic.  I'll post an update after the cable arrives once I've had a chance to test it with my Classic.  But good news!

Furthermore, for the reference of others, the cable is available here: http://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/hah/spare-parts/connecting-cord-30-pin-a-200p.html

Just received the 30-pin cable from Beyerdynamic and it DOES NOT WORK with my 7th gen. 160gb Classic, or my 5th gen. 160gb Classic. Just to make sure the cable wasn't defective, it played just fine with my iPhone 4s and 1st and 3rd gen. iPads. Very disappointed. . . . . I do have to say that I continue to be impressed with the a200p, though. Listening through the Beyer T70p, I continue to hear meaningful detail that I haven't heard before ---- very revealing but not "in my face" clinical sounding. Primary source is a current 128gb iPad mini, with retina display and loaded with lossless files.

If anybody runs across a trick to make this thing work with the Classic, please post. Thanks ----

Well, that's quite unfortunate, but I can't say I'm all that surprised. I'm waiting on my a200p to arrive, 165 for a used one was too good to pass up. I'm hoping I like it.

Maybe "if" there is another iPod Classic this year, it'll have a Lightning connection instead?
