Please bear with me if this should be in High-end Audio section or not (please hold your opinions on the Ed10 for the moment ). However Timelord in Japan (via Fujiya) just announced the Ultrasone Edition 12 for a tentative July 2013 release.

Information in Japanese released here :-

I'll get the translation later but just at face value it looks like an Edition 10 but there are differences to the specs namely :-

1) FR
2) Ed10 40mm Titanium-plated vs Ed12 40mm Gold-plated
3) Ed10 32 ohm vs Ed12 35 ohm
[to start off with]

Currently it's unknown if it's Japan-only or international. I couldn't see any announcement on Google aside from this.

Let's hope, that after the ED 10 desaster, they have a more damped and not sibilant sound signature. An open SIGNATURE PRO/DJ like sound would be all I need.

Is this open or closed?

Edit: Ah, they look open...nevermind.

I keeping an open mind but using the same Ed10 housing isn't giving me much confidence.

In addition I've seen no other news about this so I'm wondering if this is a Japan-only thing.

After the Signature PRO/DJ the days of the typical Ultrasone zing should actually be over. Let's hope they stick to it.

Yes, as the Signatures are basicly modified HFI/DJ1 cans, Ultrasone has already proven, that they can better the sound alot by reusing old designs. Even the baffle boards did not change.

If you bring a new headphone to the market today, you better avoid this and the interest of the pirates.

Definitely focused more on the luxury market with all that bling, but we'll have to wait and see if there are improvements over Ed 10.

+1

40mm titanium drivers and roller-coaster HRTFs have been Ultrasone's m.o. from the beginning, so skeptical prejudgments are not at all unjustified. That's not to say that the company can't radically alter their approach in tuning the sound, just that the early specs and superficial ED10 design similarities aren't encouraging.
