VoIP compression alogorithms make an expensive microphone worthless, but they're great for youtube videos, etc.  The webcam also is very good for skype, and works well to make video mugshot overlays in videos.

Same here. The mic on my logitech C270 is more than good enough since I'm not looking to record broadcast quality audio.

Gonna have to agree, the mics on my logitech webcams have always worked great as mics... at least I think so because I haven't heard anyone complaining, lol.  Seriously though, I don't think theres any reason to pay too much for a mic unless its for semi-professional applications.  For just gaming and voice chatting, a basic mic is all you really need.

I heard that that brand of mics was overpriced as hell, kinda like beats. :/

Accepted. Though I rarely play any games on Steam anymore. All of the games I play are on Origin.

Wow, I can't believe audiophiles are blowing off microphone quality as unimportant.

The Blue Snowball is only recommended because it's convenient and easy to use, a better set up would be a proper microphone with a mic preamp/interface, but that's going to be more money too.
 
I set up Ventrilo to use the best codecs available, so the mics aren't overkill at all.

Given the terrible headsets most of my guildies and friends use...I could be using a tin can with a string and they'd be ok with the sound quality.

Well, my FEZ world is almost complete in Terraria. I only need to beat the Twins, Skeletron Prime, Plantera, and the Golem. That will cover all of the bosses. I was hoping for a blizzard though in the snow biome so I could get my hands on the Frost Key Mould (whatever it's called) for that map (I already have the Ice Hydra Staff though).
