Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

I have done this easy mod using a medium comply foam from my TF10. Better isolation and very quick to do, just cut and remove a small part of the foam using scissors.

AFAIK there are two versions of SF5: SuperFi 5 Pro uses the same tips as TripleFi 10, the newer SuperFi 5 version has different ones. I'm also using the SF5pro/TF10 silicon tips on my IE8/80, but added some foamies underneath for slightly better isolation:

I think the isolation on the IE8/80's isolate rather well as long as you shove the earbuds in as deep as you can

do you think sennheiser will release a ie80i for iphone-users soon? What was the delay form ie8 to ie8i?

Doesn't matter the cables are compatible, if you want it so bad just buy the cable and recable. On a side note, Beats and Monster are going their separate ways...I would love to see what happens now...

Though this is pretty obvious, i just wanted to point this out.. it's extremely important to make sure the earphones are sitting correctly in your ear. After having owned these for like 3 weeks now and listening to them every few days (im very very busy these days), only today i found the perfect position for my ears. And wow what a difference. Im getting fuller bass and better volume levels, plus better comfort.

This is a little hard to describe without pics, but the way i had it before was such that the cable coming out the driver was closer to being horizontal when the earphone was in my ear. I adjusted it so that the cable was closer to being vertical and it's much better this way.

First Impressions of the IE80/ Comparison to IE8

After plugging them in for the first time my thought was: “OMG, even more bass than on the IE8?!?”

In the end it´s hard to tell whether the sub bass quantity increased or sub bass just comes to life after the reduction of the mid bass hump.
Overall, the bass is really nice now, deep, full and most importantly, it doesn´t mess with the midrange anymore.
I would prefer a tad less bass on some tracks but they are the minority.
I guess the bass hump shifted way down to the lower frequencies as james444 already said.
What I love most is the clear separation between midrange and bass, one of the weak points of the IE8.

Midrange really shines now! The main reason is the reduction in mid bass, but there´s also a slight improvement on tracks without bass due to the change in presentation.
Mids are a bit less laid back, more upfront. The veil may not be gone completely but it was lifted a bit.
However, the soundstage got smaller in order to get this more intimate presentation, which is ok for me.

Treble didn´t change. This is a good thing, since the IE8´s treble was known for being smooth, non-fatiguing, with no sibilance at all.

The IE80 is just more fun to listen to than the IE8. The sound is warm, smooth, more detailed, doesn´t lack clarity and is even more involving because of the more intimate presentation and clearer midrange.
I´m very pleased overall

EDIT 11/11/13: Ignore this post. I was very inexperienced when writing this. Now I wouldn't recommend the IE80 to anyone.

And if you wanna improve them further get a silver cable. zeroshoe has them at the best price I think. They look the cleanest and nicest looking IMO. Also Chris_himself probably has them but probably for quite a bit more. When I initially put them in I was a bit disappointed. Then I forgot to put the silver cable back on and after it is exactly as I remember my last pair of IE80s which I sent back last week.

OK some initial impressions.
Bass: On the lowest setting it is too light for me (but lets face it, everything is too light for me), but it is still there. On the max level bass is right where I want it to be and it doesn't cover the mids. Bass is well controlled and deep.
Mids: Better than OK I guess, can't really compare them to any IEM I've owned as they haven't had quality sound
Treble: Good extension, not glaring but bright. Just on the border for me for being too bright, but as this is new soundsignature I think I'll need to get more burn in to my ears to get adjusted.
Funny thing is that I've noticed that I can hear new stuff in my songs. Like in First Of the Year there is crowd on the background

Well, well, if we contrast this to previous IE-8 reviews which have described the Mids & Treble as veiled, or recessed, or laid back, then the IE-80 is a clear improvement (pun intended).

Love this: "...I've noticed that I can hear new stuff in my songs."   I agree, the IE-80's make me want to re-listen to everything in my library.
It's like the first time all over again...

And if you are ever looking for something to compliment your IE80s yet not take you out of your comfort zone that would be the FX700 .

Glad you are liking your IE80s. I am loving them too. I just gave up on the impedance adapter and am using my UHA4 with my Studio V. It solves the hiss issues completely and maintains the Studios Vs magnificent sound with improvement :)

So I'm guessing you are enjoying them then :) Was my advice helpful after all lol?

Still waiting on my pair. Delivery in The Netherlands is difficult, so hopefully they will be there at the end of the month. Waiting patiently. First thing that comes is the HiSound ROCOO-P, let's try that first.
