They are sending free replacement blocks to everyone in the affected batches so it doesn't really matter.

More pictures? How do you see whether it's just a surface scratch or a fissure? Is it very evident which it is? (Got a hairline scratch on one of my blocks that can be felt going over it with a nail so it's got a tiny bit of depth. But I wouldn't have noticed it unless I had read this thread. The scratch doesn't bother me at all if that's all it is.)

Mine is not from a batch that should have been affected (since I have not got the email from them). So I'd like to see some pictures to figure out if mine is affected anyway (scratch or fissure...).

If the plastic looks to be slightly cracked/scratched then you have been affected. I didn't notice till I received the email and I only noticed it on the left side.

Its funny that after looking at the picture of the cracked plastic block on the LCD-2, I noticed that mine isn't a rounded off block, but a much more angular square one that seems to be made of metal/hard plastic.  I guess I have an older version that doesn't have this problem.

Totally random question out of curiousity...

Does anyone know the reasoning for the LCD-2 name itself?  It's obviously a successor to the earlier LCD-1 model, so I guess in turn I am wondering the reasoning on why they decided to use the "LCD" monikor for their headphones (where as ones like HD, ATH, etc. are bit more obvious LCD doesn't seem to be so).

I was hoping that some of the Orthoheads that's followed them since the LCD-1 might be able to enlighten me on the matter (thought about emailing Alex to ask but that would be a total waste of time on his end, he probably has enough legitimate questions to answer to).

So I received my pair today(preordered (8/29).  Initial impressions:  Comfort:  I have no comfort issues so far.  There is little to no clamping force, the leather pads are fairly comfortable and the weight is well distributed.  This is only after one hour so I'll have to see how the hold up on a two hour listening session.  Sound:  Awesome, deep bass!  Vocals sound incredibly real and alive.  Soundstage isn't as wide as my now sold T1 but is still very good.  They are actually aren't to0 difficult  to drive on my Meier Concerto, with the volume knob at only about 10 oclock and I'm getting powerful, deep sound.  These are my new, newb impressions but I'm really happy with my purchase so far(currently listening to Exile on Main Street

Here's my pictures. Audeze were fast to react, no fuss, no questions. Wonder what could have caused it???

I'm glad that Audeze is being pro-active about this problem, instead of taking the ostrich approach. It's the cost of doing business and they are doing the right thing. Kudos to Audeze for taking action on this particular problem, and I hold them in a higher respect for taking action on this problem, before it got out of hand.

Agreed. They are standing behind their product and I'm sure they will put this behind them very soon.

After all, let's not forget some of the bigger (and older) companies with similar problems like the Shure SE530 crackling cable, or the Sennheiser HD650s cracked headband issue (top of the headband).

Funny, I'm noticing that my headband blocks are more "square" and less rounded at the edges as the ones noted in the photos above. As well, the engraved R and L on mine are wider (the engraved letters on the ones above look "thinner").  Interesting....

***DISCLAIMER: Cable atheists will be ignored. These are my personal experiences using my gear and ears.***

So my new Moon Audio Silver Dragon LCD-2 cable arrived today. First off, my purchasing experience from Moon Audio has been top notch. Drew is readily available and is very quick to respond, build the cables and ship them out.

First off the construction:
It's a beautifully crafted cable. The workmanship and quality of materials really shows! The cable is quite a bit lighter and more flexible than the stock cable. As well, I find the upper "Y" portion less microphonic than the stock. Though it still can show some microphonics, it's an improvement. I really like the lighter and more flexible cable. These headphones are heavy enough and having a lighter cable really helps.

The Furutech plug is HUGE and just gorgeous! As big as the stock Neutrik plug is, it is nowhere as impressive as the Furutech plug.

Now how does it compare sonically to the stock cable:
My source: Marantz CD Player (CD Transport)
My dac: PS Audio DLIII
My amp: Meier Audio Concerto
My music: Jazz at the Pawnshop (Vol. 1 & 2), Kind of Blue (Legendary Edition) and Moving Pictures (from my avatar...you might tell I'm a fan.

)

Right off the bat, I tried Moving Pictures and from a direct A-B on Tom Sawyer, Neil Peart's cymbals had more energy (which I did crave more for when just listening to the stock cable). As well, Geddy's voice had the higher octaves back and he sounded more like well...Geddy. If you're a Rush fan, you'll know what I'm talking about.

As well, there was an improvement on instrumental separation. They still very much sound like LCD-2s, but with the more presence of "air" that I wanted. The soundstage also seemed to open up a bit. Now it was not a massive shift, but enough to notice (also an added bonus IMO).

With my 2 jazz albums, very similar characteristics were detected. Sax's seemed to have more energy on the higher notes, muted trumpets didn't seem set as far back and the instrumental separation did improve.

I just wanted to clarify that the Silver Dragon did NOT change the treble from the typical LCD-2 treble to that of the HD800s (that would be silly), but did present it (the treble) in a way that wasn't as pushed back with the stock cable. The mids seemed a bit more liquid and better integrated with the treble as well.

My experience with "cheap" silver cables (like 2N silver) is that they can sound a bit thin and lack a full bodied sound. But these are NOT cheap silver cables (they are 6N silver as noted on the Moon Audio website with very low impurities) and the bass/mid-bass was UNAFFECTED with the change from copper to silver. A very, very good thing IMO  as the bass on the LCD-2s is the BEST I've ever heard.

To sum it up, I am quite happy with this purchase and with the subtle to not so subtle improvements made with the Silver Dragon cable, I'm now thinking I can say that the LCD-2s are now my "on an island headphone". Something I couldn't really say with the stock cable due to the issues I had with the pushed back treble and less sense of air.
