Westone 3 - You asked for it, we listened !

Will the 3 have thin cables like the UM2 or even thinner. I love the fact that UM2's use a thin cable. It keeps you low profile, which is good.
Occassionally on the tube I'd see someone with an E2c. What a burden! With a little bit of dark hair it's quite difficult to spot a UM2. I wish the cable were replaceable then we could get a transparent one.
Even better!

agreed. one must decide for him/herself which sounds better. based on my trial with the 3 at macworld i like the 3 over the e500. i even like shure's se420 over the e500...but you might not agree with me. the great thing is that we now have so much to choose from and that's great for the consumer!

Same braided cable as the UM's.

Powderhound

I'm not gonna buy the 3, not in the universal mode anyway. I've got ES2's and can't ever go back to a non-custom IEM. However, having owned UM2's and E500's, there are some things I can comment on. First, I ABSOLUTELY HATED the cord on the E500's - it was stiff, bulky and uncomfortable. It irritated the top and back of my ears. The PTH gimmick was probably okay (I never needed it) but they put it in line way up the cord, close to the Y, meaning there was a big, bulging connector half way down the cord. Worst piece of consumer design ever conceived. Westone has always used very thin, flexible wires that were fantastic. Don't change them. Replaceable is nice (as in the ES2), but not important to me.

I like clear.

Finally, for those of us with ES2's, I understand Westone keeps our molds "on file" for a year or two, perhaps longer. A great service would be an offer to use those molds to get Custom 3's at some slight discount. If nothing else, a confirmation that if I want custom 3's I could simply call Westone, tell you to use the molds on file and have them made and sent without the need for additional visits to an audiologist but keep the same guarantee of re-fitting if needed.

I'd be more than happy to be a beta user of the custom 3 and write reviews and suggestions!

maybe we'll have some special price for Head-Fi for the first run ^^
i hope they'll come with more impressive accessory array than the UM2 though which is pretty lacking in that department (though it seems you got it covered with the addition of the 1/4" adapter and multiple sets of eartips) but the little stuff make a difference

. reading through the first short impressions of it , the comparison to Grado's and playing Rock, I am thinking this might be the better option for me over the E500 (i don't think i'll mind "coloring" but it'll still be need to be as detailed as the E500s and have a good guitar sound ^^)

When you indicate the UE's fit poorly, do you mean the triple-fi's or the UE10's?

Right now im Owning the Um2, this seems to be the perfect IEM for me (metal listener)...

I would also prefer Clears , this looks kind of "technical" and is quite stealth... I like the fact that the 3´s will fit like the um2 , because the um2 are so comfortable...

When u got some "final" 3´s i would love to read some more impressions (especially compared to the um2 which should be fine for most of the readers here
