tonight IS mod night....

the 8 or so resistors near the 4 leds&filtering mosfets all fell victim to my soldering iron. the solder sucker i own sucks, in a bad non-ideal sucking way.

the little ones (1-k ohm each) are vishay/dale rn60. rn65 would probably have fit lengthwise, but maybe not widthwise with the 10-k's soldered flat on the board.
the big ones are vishay 3W r2w2 (umm, i will upodate with an actual part) in 10k-ohm. this is an "upgrade" for wattage spec from the stock reccomended 2W.

im going to plug-in and test a bit. then its off to the races with theory in hand to swap one of the BIG electrolytics with the 100uf solen that is sitting unused and lonely for some volts. naturally i will update.

if you wait reallllly long i may act sorry for the double post in short time.
long time..... not yet. maybe in a few weeks.

so i went to get my melos psu mods finished and decided that that was as good of a time as any to pull the old cr(a)p and install the new one. the bulk of the weight of a melos amp is in the lid (it weighs more than the rest of EVERYTHING, What?) and the lid is off but its still a pain to unplug everything and travel back and forth...

so i did.

yeppo, 100uf is VERY adequate in this position. this is in the LAST position after all of the psu mosfets, and before the plate resistors.

bass is still tight and VERY well controlled. also DEEEEEP. head-shakingly good. breathing sounds cool. air going through a trumpet is all there. the highs are beautyfull. vocals are amazing. im off to listen.

Don't worry, J. In a few days all of your waiting will be over and you will be even happier with your new Maestrobator than with your old Melos.

Patience, my friend. Patience. (I know it's difficult!!!)

Are you kidding? This is UK mail we are talking about. When they say 5 days they mean 10 working days. Now the post office dude said 3-4 days. Which basically means 6-8 working days.

And the cost to ship the beast over it would of been more cost effective for me to deliver it to Jahn myself while stopping off to pick up some US based goodies.

Saw something I want but it is in NJ. That's like an hour away???

It all depends on how well business goes. I took a $4150 order last night that I made $400 on, so I see more parts in the near future.

Besides, I'm not really looking to surpass yours. Carlo himself said he felt he had reached the point where it couldn't sound better.

Whether or not I can come close to yours though depends on a lot of things. For example, I have to reverse engineer the left channel mod - there is virtually zero information on that, and I will admit the amps background is most certianly not black at present.

Also, high res pics of yours, especially the capacitors, would be wonderfully useful.

Time will tell, but I'm not making any promises. I wish I had a chance to ask Carlo questions before he vanished.

edit: what tubes are you running?
