I know it's a "sample"...but I don't pay anything for it?? FREE op-amps?

EDIT: Oh, nevermind. It costs $10.14.

I called Partsconnexion today and they are closed until January 2nd. Oh well, I've waited three months for this, guess I can wait some more.

Ordered the "samples" in the wee hours of Chistmas day , got a shipping confirmation the 26th. UPS 2nd day air from Singapore warehouse. Pretty good for 10 bucks and 3 opamps. Can't wait to try them out in my D2.0c.

Received the LM4562 opamps today ! Running three in my D2.0c replacing a DY2000 and 2 2604s. First impressions are very good. The biggest difference is the "blackness" when I first put them in , very clean and quiet background compared to the DY2000 and 2604s. The soundstage is most definately bigger... I would call it instrument placement is much better and defined the soundstage sounds similar to the DY2000 and 2604s but everything is more robust and tight. I really want to try these when they fully burn in with the DY2000 in the center , though I am loving the sound of all three LM4562s right now. Great find. I also have the Blackgate mod , DC blocking cap mod.

Progress update:

Argh - am waiting on 2 damned caps - only then will my ZL be complete. Till then, I'm effectively source-less.

Cool! That's about exactly what I am hearing too. Amazing the blackness you mentioned, they are noticeably quiet and things sound so clean and focused. It definitely has the open quality of the DY2000 in spades but it's fuller too and tighter.

The LM4562 is a new opamp that I believe just came out sometime this past year, maybe summer or late summer. They have been a hit in many other forums (DIY Audio, Audio Circle, etc.) and there has been a lot of talk about this opamp in the various forums here speculating about them before anyone had got them. There are many others at this forum who have had this opamp for quite some time now and there are other impressions (Pink Floyd is a huge fan of them). Apparently National Semiconductor had set out to design a true audiophile opamp and so this opamp really has been designed and optimized with audio applications in mind. I'm not the best with specifications but people have raved how good the specs are with the 4562. A lot of times specs don't always account for what we hear but I'm guessing in this case the specs really tell the story big time.

Update:

My D2.5C is on the way!
Although Lawrence has connectivity issues due to the broken undersea optical cable (see th news), he let me know that the DAC is underway.

From experience it will take a few days and then an extra few days for customs.
So at the end of the second week of this new year I will have the D2.5C, I hope.

I will do a quick check and then I can start investigating the Zapfilter possibilities.

Anyone has modded 2.5C yet? I have a 2.5C and it looks to my untrained eyes there are only TWO opamps (2604) on the output board. Is this the result of eliminating the XLR output? So I will get better sound by replacing just those two 2604 with something better?

By the way, there seems to be multiple versions of LM4562 under different packaging. The "LM4562NA MDIP" type looks like a good fit to our board. Can anyone confirm?

Thank you!

I have never been a fan of the "brighter" type sound , very sensittive ears to treble freq. but I love detail. These opamps (LM4562) seem to keep the detail but with fullness at the same time. Plus the very clean , black background makes the music so much more involving and engrossing. I was trying to mix and match the dy2000 and 2604s for this effect and it was good but the 3 4562 seems almost perfect. Still gonna swap in the dy2000 for center position when the break-in is done. Any idea how long these need to really settle ? I have not noticed much difference they just seem to get more quiet background wise.

I will not have time to perform mods once school starts up again, I am very close to just ordering three of the LM4562's and calling it a day... Has anyone else had any luck with Partsconnexion?

btw if anyone wants to sell theirs to a poor student =) let me know. I would taken extremely loving care of it for days to come. Would like it with the upgrade amp if possible.

Anyway...how would you guys think this would drive my 580s? I like the idea of a DAC and Amp built into one.
