Budget CD Player, primarily for Classical Music

Greetings, I myself have a pair of Senn. HD600s, with which I use a Marantz sa8260 SA-CD player. The sa8260 is not available anymore and is hard to find, however, like you, I myself listen to a lot classical music (about 95% of my collection is classical) and I couldn't be happier with the...

100% ignorant to DIY and in need of council

@i_djoel2000: I had a file that played 5 sec. stereo, 5 sec. left channel and five seconds right channel. I am sure I snatched it somewhere off Head-Fi but can't seem to locate it. PM me if you want it, although you can find similar files online (this site seems to have files that'd work)...

I apologize in advance for digging this one up from the cemetery! After some time, I finally got around to completing this project. I ended up purchasing a 25W Hakko dash. I was almost certain to buy a Weller, but after more research it would appear they're quality is not what it used to be...

    Bands with best live sound?

Has anyone seen The Shins live? I've heard so many great things from friends, especially about their keyboardist, that I have wondered if a casual fan like myself would be rewarded to see them live sometime.. not to hijack the thread! Quote: Originally Posted by VicAjax a couple of...

    4'33". Is it music?

Sorry for above; I see it's already been generally agreed upon that this "composition" is not likely music. Also, didn't intend to come off sounding like a pretentious a**hole!

    4'33". Is it music?

This reminds me of something Rage Against the Machine did, and I don't think the (pissed-off) fans in the background would qualify as "music." Let's see here, from TFD.. mu·sic (myzk) n. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative...

If you enjoy this, I can't help but believe you'd enjoy all six Bach cello suites.. probably even his four lute suites (one of which is simply transcribed from his fifth cello suit), his violin partitas.. from there, you can explore his keyboard works, namely the Art of the Fugue, Well-Tempered...

It's J.S. Bach's Prelude from his Cello Suite No. 1 in G major. I think it is performed Burkhart although Yo-Yo Ma's rendition is, in my humble opinion, better. I hope this helps. EDIT: After a quick search, I can confirm it is Robert Burkhart on the cello- yet my assessment concerning him...

Best "concept" albums of progressive rock/heavy metal

I see Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Jethro Tull, Genesis, Tool and Opeth are already mentioned, along with most of the progressive metal concept albums I'm familiar with. I don't know if it fits into this genre (progressive rock?), but dredg's El Cielo is a very solid concept album.

Has anyone else had their muscial horizons "expanded" by Head-fi?

I've given Porcupine Tree a serious listen after giving up on them, having purchased In Absentia after it came out (I think it was around 2003??). I was intrigued by the cover.. it's funny how much music I have purchased based on album covers! Anyways, I gave the album a spin after years of...

    Bands with best live sound?

"Best" live bands I've seen were probably the Flaming Lips and maybe Sonic Youth. Other great shows.. the Moody Blues, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Dimmu Borgir were surprisingly good! My personal favorite, albeit moreso for the atmosphere/energy than their sound, has to be Rage Against the...

I've never had much interest in DIY projects, having always opted to buy from those with experience. However, my brother has just "ruined" his third (3rd!!) pair of Grado headphones. Two SR60s and one SR80. I never thought much about getting them fixed, as it would probably cost more than to...

Best Albums of the 00s. Head-Fi Edition

Favorite: Shpongle - Tales of the Inexpressible Second favorite: Beck - Sea Change Seriously, an entire decade.. there's a very great many stellar albums excluded here. Probably some, escaping my memory, that I enjoyed more than the two I listed.. and even more yet that I've yet to hear.
