Closed headphones state of the art?
You don't rate Beyerdynamic T5p at all? I have read a little about the Fostex TH600 - opinions on leakage are very mixed.- aeberbach

Closed headphones state of the art?
I have PSB M4U1 - they are very good! But I'd like better, I have tried one better option already. It must be closed (office use). I prefer neutral/accurate to bass-heavy. If an amp is required, can do. Budget is $1000+ - so what do you think is the best available for a wide range of music?- aeberbach

Help choose new portables... Beyerdynamic T50p, AKG K450, Sennheiser PX 200-II... Bluetooth?
Now my all-time favourite portables are the Etymotic 4Ps, which I will wear with comfort through a 14-hour flight and the only downside is that I sometimes miss out on ordering a drink because I can't hear the flight attendant. But I don't like to take them out of the pouch, get them set in my...- aeberbach

Need Sony D-303 Discman service manual PDF
So from the (lack of) responses I was thinking that personal CD players are dead, everyone is digital. But check out this eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180538006532&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_500wt_1154 That's a lot of money. Maybe the seller...- aeberbach

Need Sony D-303 Discman service manual PDF
Played a CD in the car on the way home through it - works great! It skipped when I hit bumps but that's probably to be expected from a player with no ESP or suspension system. Still want the service manual... even the user manual would be nice. This is such a versatile player with its...- aeberbach

Need Sony D-303 Discman service manual PDF
Well I found one thread from 2006 where someone was kind enough to post the D-303 service manual on rapidshare - but the link is dead, as you would expect so many years later. I have found the D-88 and D-515 manuals via google but D-303 is nowhere to be found. I'm excited about this -...- aeberbach

Who has the most irritating fans?
Of course it would be fans of The Cure, but they seem to be mostly grown up now and ashamed to look at the old photographs. -
Beyerdynamic MMX 2 Gaming Headset
I've just got my MMX 2s - I agree completely with jmb. I've had Plantronics DSP 400 (sound OK, but folding was annoying), Plantronics Audio 310 (good for Skype but mono, not for music) and Plantronics Audio 650 (huge disappointment. Muddy sound, crap microphone, complaints from everyone I talked...- aeberbach

AD825 + EL2009 for 600 ohm Beyer DT 880?
Thoughts? I looked in my old parts box and found some of the EL2001 and EL2009 parts that were in vogue 5-6 years ago (before supplies dried up). And AD825 on DIP adapters. And lots of AD825, and AD8512, AD811, AD843, AD823, AD841, OPA134, OP27G, OP90, OP37, ICL7611, LM380, LM386 The big...- aeberbach

No kidding...This is the Ultimate Tweak!! The Audio Desk System
Without hearing discs that have been cut all I can say is that if you cut carefully you probably won't hurt them. But the price? If I took the Farnell or McMaster-Carr or Digikey or any of a numer of other catalogs and ordered everything I needed, including tools, to make one of these units -... -
Your undiscovered gems; obscure new music
I have a big CD collection by some standards. I'd like an even bigger one but because I can't bring myself to tolerate the inane FM radio around here I don't know what to buy. I'm not browsing at my local music store because a lot of new releases in Australia are copy protected; so I'll import... -
opinions on the melos sha-1 ( I'll pair it with the senns hd650 )
I have owned a couple of SHA-1 amps, now have a SHA Gold. All are fine pre- and headphone amplifiers even though not now in vogue around here. The only downside is that 6DJ8/6922/7308 tubes can be impossible to find as NOS and when you do the prices are insane, but new production from Tesla and...- aeberbach

Happy birthday aeberbach
Thanks all! Nice of you. My leisure time is all about photography these days. I'm even thinking of selling the Grace 901... it's worth a nice lens or so. Since I work at home full time now (careful what you wish for) the need for headphones is less. And the family is here, and if I do put...- aeberbach

Impressions: aeberbach-made K1000 replacement cable...
Yeah, my first K1000 mod was to take an Equinox HD600 cable and attach it to the K1000s. These days I just make two tails, one to 1/4" and one to banana plugs. Last post before heading up north for Xmas with the family. When I come back I'm going to use that other cable, the teflon/silver... -

beamer recommendations/experiences wanted...
Hi lini! I was very confused when I read that you wanted a beamer for your computer - your title suggested to me you were shopping for a BMW. We usually call those things that project your computer's screen onto a flat surface a projector. If you can edit the title you might get more responses...- aeberbach

Impressions: aeberbach-made K1000 replacement cable...
It's a pretty basic cable with a lot of care in connecting it all up with heatshrink etc., I was experimenting a bit. From the banana plugs to the middle join is Canare GS-6, I used four lengths one for each plug. In the middle join these connect to some silver-plated teflon-insulated shielded... -
Copy-Protected CD
philodox, if I had just decided to pirate the CD I could hardly talk about it here, strictly against policy! But seriously I value my CD collection, I'm a collector at heart and it makes me happy to see them all in their racks. And I know if some amazing new compression or storage scheme comes...- aeberbach

Scotch recommendations
Too bad you won't drink an Islay malt, because there is no doubt that Lagavulin is the world's finest whisky. I'm with Kevin on the full strength recommendation. Some makers call it "cask strength", around 120 proof or better. d'Abunadh is one I buy and there is an OK Glenfarclas too. Get...- aeberbach

Copy-Protected CD
If your EAC is set up properly you should have autoplay disabled while it is running. "Hail To The Thief" is the last copy protected album I got. I returned it of course and ordered the U.S. version (no protection) but EAC had no serious trouble with it and I was able to listen to MP3s while...- aeberbach

Software to organise MP3's into folders based on ID tags
Google on "tagscan MP3" - don't be put off by the fact it mostly comes on Russian ftp servers, the author is Russian and I have installed it on many systems with no problem. I've only used tagscan for re-tagging based on directory structure but it does both. A very small program that works...- aeberbach

Best knife sharpening tool for dummys...
I still think sharpening stones are best, with a jig if you need one. Traditional oil stones are harder to use because they require about four times as much sharpening to get a knife sharp and it can be difficult to hold the blade at a consistent angle. If you get a 1000 grit synthetic water...- aeberbach

Tchaikovsky 1812 Neeme Järvi, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra on DG
Does anyone else have this CD? I was just getting to the bottom of the pile in the big FLAC re-encode project and I played this one. What a magnificent recording - it is head and shoulders above my other recording directed by Karajan in all respects, from the beginning vocals to the cannon...
