Well, I guess it depends, if you are only listening to monaural recording, you are probably fine. This is off topic though...- Driftwood

My impressions of HE-6 vs HD800 vs Stax SR-007
You are on the right track, but you need to take into account the differences between average and peak listening level. Now, I realize that a lot of music these days is very compressed and doesn't have a lot of dynamic range, but you probably want to have the ability to do at least a 14db...- Driftwood

My impressions of HE-6 vs HD800 vs Stax SR-007
I don't really have any specific comments about the power requirements of the HE-6, but I find this comment hillarious. Schiit releases an amplifier they advertise as being overkill and make disclaimers about how they are not responsible if you blow up your headphones, and now it has become "the...- Driftwood

Also, Justin has been building the BHSE in batches so it isn't unusual to have periods of seemingly no activity in between runs. That being said, I'm not sure why Justin is now quoting a 4 month wait time when he hasn't been able to meet quoted 6-month wait times successfully and has two new...- Driftwood

The Stax thread (New)
Thanks for the tip, I'll admit I hadn't tried bending the band since wearing the headphones even without the band wasn't all that comfortable. However since my discomfort is just as you describe and bending the band seemed to fix it for you I'm definitely willing to give it a try.- Driftwood

Why are amplifiers so different inside?
Plus interconnects may be shielded, which can reduce the amount of noise that is picked up.- Driftwood

The Stax thread (New)
The SR-001 is the only Stax headphone I feel is particularly uncomfortable. The SR-007 is quite comfortable, perhaps the most comfortable of any headphone I've tried. However, I don't really have comfort problems with many non-in-ear headphones, even Grados which are considered notoriously...- Driftwood

How do you listen to music?
It is definitely less of a problem to listen to flawed recordings on speakers, but I'm not really sure why that is... maybe it has to do with the proximity of the sounds to the ear when wearing headphones that make extraneous noises grab your attention. It is easier to block out noise when it...- Driftwood

Are the modern orthos approaching perfection?
Quote: I'm not sure I understand what you are getting at here -- say for example, that you consider the HE90 the finest headphone ever manufactured. It is your headphone ideal. Now say there is a new headphone released, let's call it "headphone X" and it sounds almost identical to the...- Driftwood

How do you listen to music?
One of the reasons that I enjoy headphones is that I feel that they are a good mechanism to teach yourself how to "hear." Headphones give you a relatively inexpensive way to experience the differences between varying approaches to sound reproduction and have the additional benefit of allowing...- Driftwood

Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition
I certainly hope so -- I don't think that great imaging like that of the SR-007 necessitates a small "headstage," simply that this was the means by which Stax accomplished this end. I'm not sure why they changed their strategy following the SR-Omega, but I am hopeful that the C32 will blend...- Driftwood

Audeze LCD-2 Orthos
it may be considered "mid-fi" now by the upwardly mobile headphone middle class, but I don't view the HD600 or HD650 as a "compromise" headphone. Besides, an LCD-2 may give you "80%" when driven directly out of an ipod, but I'm pretty sure a "mid-fi" can can get you more than "80%" of the way to...- Driftwood
