    Top American manufacturers?

oh yeah, how could we POSSIBLY forget about them?!?! Needless to say the list is VERY long, and there's lots of stuff that doesn't even get reviewed of even published.

    Worthwhile Upgrade? HD590 --> HD600?

I say do it, for 2 reasons: 1. The 600 is a superior can, and you can grow with it when you get a dedicated headphone amp. 2. The Monitor 5 will sound better WITHOUT the PDR8. Go for it, especially with a dealer relationship like this!

    Marantz CD5000 to NAD C541i

no worries blr. Marantz is readily avialbale here, just the KI version never made it to this side of the world. The 4000, 5000, 6000, and all the OSE stuff did, and the new models still sell like crazy. Although I think things will cool now that they are under the same umbrella as Denon...

McCormack's UDP1 player will be around US$3500. Integra Research is NOT made in the US, it's a Japanese brand made in either Taiwan, Malaysia or Singapore. It's the same as Onkyo's DVSP800 multi player, which has been available for over a year. Kinda like Toyota/Lexus.

    NAD 541 vs. MMF-CD25?

You say your NAD is bright? What cables are you using? If you're not already, get some good quality solid core copper cables from AudioQuest, Clarity Labs, Harmonic Technology, Maple Audio, Acoustic Zen, etc. They'll work wonders on that screechy high end. The Music Hall walks all over the...

    Marantz CD5000 to NAD C541i

blr, please don't take my comments personally, it seems as if I've touched a nerve (?). I don't doubt the performance of the 6000ose, like I said I used to own one. Keep in mind that the KI version is not readily available in North America, so finding one here for Gmd will be tough, even on...

How do you plug in an aftermarket powercord to 963sa?

yes, if it's got the 2-prong detachable cord as most Technics pieces do, then go for it. You won't be dissapointed.

and they managed to maintain quality control. Wharfedale is another example, but at least they dropped their price points on most of their products. I could be mistaken, but I don't think Mission or AE's pricesa re any lower than in the past.

I agree again. On the other hand, there are some manufactures that have done the opposite with no increase in price, eventhough it's more expensive to it, the end quality of the product is better. Can anybody guess who has done this?????

Soundboy, yes, I agree, with the new global marketplace becoming ever more competitive, we all win with better, no matter where it's made.

    Marantz CD5000 to NAD C541i

Personally, I think if someone was going to upgrade FROM a 5000, and wanted a worthwhile jump in performance, going to a 6000OSE would be negligeable (I used to own one). On the other hand, going to a hot rodded 6000, i/e, the Heart or the AH! product would make more sense, for around the same...

    Top American manufacturers?

yes, D&M Holdings, owner's of the Denon and Marantz brands, and now Mac, are based in Japan, however, all design and manufacture of Mac gear will remain a separate entity, and to my knowledge, is still made in the US. June's issue of Stereophile had a writeup about this subject.

How do you plug in an aftermarket powercord to 963sa?

yes, for most IEC's, however, there are a lot of players such as Onkyo and Toshiba, and..... that have a 2 prong cord that is detachable. AQ's NRG1 was made for this application, and makes a marked difference. The NRG2, 3, 4, and 5 are for everything else.
