Zune Line Out Dock (LOD)

Bad news. The LOD came today, I promptly plugged it into my Zune80 (seems to fit fine), connected the mini to mini and my T3 and listened. Nothing. Silence. Now, that means either one of three things: This LOD is only good with the original 30GB Zune, it's only good with the Zune HD (meaning it will not work with the 80/120 Zunes) or it's a ripoff. At $16, I am not going to get too po'd. But really, it's just not working. I tried my amp via HP out (with same mini to mini) and there is sound, so it's not the amp or the cable or the phones. What gives here? Interestingly enough, I ordered a 16GB Zune HD ($133 open box from Amazon) and it will arrive tomorrow, but I am concerned about plugging the LOD into my new Zune, fearing it could cause damage.
 
Update: I went back and looked at the ebay ad, and my guess is that this only works with the 1st gen Zune, the chunky 30GB model, which is the one pictured with the LOD I bought (one that has no cable, just a dock). I am going to write to the seller and complain, because he needs to be more specific about which Zune this dock allegedly will work with. It was worth the $15 gamble, but still...
 
On the upside, my Zune80 battery seems to be dying awful fast now, so it maybe be headed to recycle-ville. Anyone every replace a Zune80 basttery?

I ordered one.  I should be able to state in a couple days if it functions with the Zune HD.

On a side not, paying with paypal, it should be very easy to get your money back if the product is 'non functioning'

My ZuneHD comes tomorrow, so I will check it out, but my guess is only will work, if it works at all, with the old 30GB model. Just a hunch.

Update: Just heard from the ebay seller, and he says he only tested on the Zune30 (first gen models), and figured it would work on all of the Zunes. He's an honest guy and is refunding my money, which is nice. I will be curious to see if it works with the HD, but doubt it. Unless I got a bad one or something. Anyway, he made good. And he is changing his ebay ad to reflect they only work with the Zunes.

i'm wondering if I'm just better-off rockboxing a sansa fuze and getting an LOD for it...  I guess it's only $16 to test it on a Zune 30, though.

Definitely interested if it works for the ZuneHD..which I have a feeling won't.

If anybody has a Zune 30 and wants a LOD, I might have one for you if it does not work for the HD.

That makes me really sad, I guess they removed the line-out or encrypted it differently on the second gen? I've got a 120.

Must be. The ebay guy just assumed all Zunes are the same, because he no doubt tested it with the Zune30 first gen player. He has asked me to use the LOD to connect the headphone amp, meanwhile, plug in an earphone into the phone out (of the player, not the amp I presume), and let him know the result. I am not a DIYer, I guess he wants to see if the LOD/amp plugged in cuts off the HP out.

if this thing doesn't work for Zune80 or Zune120, it should not work with any zune. Period.

Dammit ... I would have really like to use this LOD with my brand new diy RA1 ! (which sounds incredibly good !)

I'm almost ready to open my Zune Dock to see what's in there ... someone must have forgot something to do !
 
That's weird it doesn't works with a Zune 80 if it works with a 30 gigs, I'm using a Zune 30 dock (cheapest than the 80s on ebay) with my Zune 80 ! ?!

Thanks, already checked it out. Bought a 16GB Zune HD instead, and will use my 80GB Zune mainly as a music server for my two home audio setups (both have Zune docks attached). I listen mainly to my 64GB Touch anyway. And the ZuneHD, which came last night, sounds excellent. Very nice machine.
