So back to VC talk b/c this isn’t a car forum…

Someday I will get around to getting good quality pics of my Pheasantwood VO and my Ironwood VC, but I still can’t get over how beautiful these are.

It's interesting how similar the grain is between the Ironwood and the Blackwood.

Not too surprising since both trees (and consequently its timber) actually share a lot in common. I bet they also share a lot in common with their timbre too.

I'll see myself out.
So similar timber equals similar timbre. I think that’s a T-shirt right there.

Alright pad experts, what am I looking at here.

I think the far left are Auteur solid, which were on the VC when I got them. Pad number 3 might be the same? And pad number 4 Auteur suede? Not sure on number 2, probably BE2 or Universe. Help me out here :)

Awesome, thanks! I think I'll stick with the Auteur lamb for now, get a feel for the "stock" sound before going for other pads.

Been listening with one of my SET amplifiers this morning, really the first time I've been able to sit down with the VC since I've had to work the past two days, the ears do not work after a long day. Love the sound, detailed, dynamic, well-balanced, excellent staging. Did some headband bending last nice to get the clamp force a little tighter for a good seal.

I'll try them with my OTL amplifier later today. I really love the dual grain pattern. Janka hardness of black and white ebony is around 1,780, they are quite light on the head, very comfortable with the crescent strap.

You're welcome. I think its always good to start out with the stock auteur lamb pads. These will give you an idea of the zmf house sound. If your otl amp is warm, or low end heavy, you can also try auteur hybrid solid pads.

Cool thanks, I think my OTL is not so warm, it is pretty well-balanced I would say, so maybe stock pads will be a good pairing. We will see!

And now VC with OTL. Two different flavors, pairs great with both! The staging / imaging of the VC is astounding given it is a closed back, really impressive. This particular OTL will be going to @jgwtriode soon, have to get some head time in as I only have it a few more weeks, working on a new one using 6336 / 6528 triodes and big ol' heat sinks :gs1000smile: but that will take another month or so.

My ZMF are sounding great however my ears are getting hammered, they are ringing like mad. I didnt realize just how loud I was listening, I didnt think it was that put of line.. I am guessing I am used to home audio and expect the same impact from snares, bass etc. Gonna have to keep the volume down, gonna be tough to get used to.

If you're missing the tactile bass sensation of speakers you may want to investigate installing some Butt Kickers into your listening chair.

I remember car audio "bass shakers" from back in the day. Powered by an amp just shook when bass was applied, guessing same type of situation. Will google them thx for the tip. And ya, thats what she said lmao
