Can’t ZMF just sell exchangeable wood covers for their headphones?
At this rate, we will be out of money each time a new beautiful pair of wood cans come out even if it has no upgrades.
Even if he did sell interchangeable covers, I wouldn't buy them. Personally, for me it's about supporting the man, the company, his team, and his vision of what something should be when it's completed. And owning pieces of audio artwork. I'm not sure something that can be swapped would fully accomplish that. Since then it's kind of like your vision of what it should be.
I view ZMF headphones as art, and have invested 10's of thousands of dollars to support his work. I don't really look at it as buying a set of headphones made of wood. I look at it as I'm buying art that I can also listen to. In a way, that makes it even more powerful, as sets made from different wood sound different. They each have their own "voice". Even from the same product line.
Seeing the care and attention to detail is also part of the journey. You can tell in each video, each release, each new product, he still cares, is still highly passionate about it, humble, still learning, getting feedback, tweaking, and I love that.
Also, how many Sennheiser, Hifiman or DCA CEOs do you see sanding, staining, drying, assembling, finishing their own products before they leave the factory?
People can say I'm silly or whatever, but some people buy paintings, carvings, jewelry, etc and it's not questioned.
