ZMF Bokeh - Open Back Headphones

I'm not sure which version you heard at CanJam Singapore, but there have been a number of changes since April, so the final release should be a bit better (to my ears at least).
The one at SoCal CJ sounded amazing. It has the BC's energetic and musical tuning but with more refinement (likely due to being an open set). I did tell Zach I thought the stock tuning could use just a touch more midbass, but overall it was a home run. On the Aegis high output impedance it was great, but on low impedance it leaned it out a bit more than I'd like. And if it were on solid state it would tilt even leaner. Zach's hand built Aegis sounds amazing btw. Not sure if it's the tubes or mods he's done, but it was even more dynamic and engaging than the Cayin version.

I expect that the version you heard at SoCal is pretty much the final tuning. As far as the Aegis goes, I suspect it's the difference in tubes. I have a handbuilt Aegis as well as a ZMF Aegis and I tend to use the ZMF Aegis one more. That's not to say that there couldn't be a difference between builds, but the tubes make a bigger difference, IMHO.

My first post on the forum is simply to say that I can’t wait for comparisons between the closed and open models! For now, I’m having fun fantasizing about which to get.

From ZMF Facebook:
Bokeh Open coming soon. Here's the final looks! The Grilles are purple heart and bloodwood respectively over a birch plywood called "spectraply." These will be the two stock options with LTD editions having different grille's. Our first "wood grilled" headphone! Tentative release is early December with units shipping immediately on release. #newstuff #zmfheadphones #woodlord

Now does one grab the LTD version or wait for the stabilized resin drops?

These really look fantastic and are the grille design I hoped they'd end up having.

Hi guys, I was able to demo the Bokeh Opens at the Melbourne Hifi Show today with my good friend Lachlan (Passion For Sound). He encouraged me to buy the VO blind (knowing my taste) last year and then I heard the Bokeh Closed this time last year at the same show and i was one of the 1st 250 to get them at their introductory price. This is an honest and unbiased account - apologies to those that may be offended (or bored of my shizen haha).............. I looked at them sitting there. Instant love, they were gorgeous. Picked them up. Continued that schoolboy infatuation. Put them on.......and then reality hit.............Damn - I thought I was going to continue this puppy love affair. I was way wrong. It turned out to be ....well....an OMG experience. Ok, I'll dial it down as I am being ridiculous. The BOs were, in all honesty, just AMAZING, let me explain. I literally only had 5-10 mins with them at (albeit) quiet show conditions as we were there 1st thing in the morning). For me personally, they steered away from the ZMF "House Sound". They had more top end but not nearly too much (perfect for my old ears), punch, slam, detail, bass, bags of enjoyment and will definitely be on my list for next set of cans. I also tried many other cans today and was blown away by a few - can talk to those if anyone cares to hear but this is the (well deserving) BO thread. I won't speak for Lachlan but I knew from his face that he was also very impressed. @zach915m @AnyDave when can we begin purchasing these mighty beasts please???

While we're hoping for November, we're waiting for the production pad order, so it may slide into December.

So far, I believe they have only been auditioned at a few CanJams. I'll be hearing them in Dallas in a few weeks, and cannot wait.

I‘ve tried them at High End Munich in May and immediately fell in love with them. Since then I‘m waiting for the final release. Especially after hearing them again at a small trade fair in August.

Funny note… my wife was with me and we both listened to the Caldera Closed (soft & dense wood) just before…she swore, hands down, the Bokeh Open sounded better! MUCh better! 😆 Crazy thing… I didn’t argue that much at all.
Funnily I had a similar experience. There were various other ZMFs at the High End, and the bokeh sounded much better to me than all of them. Although I have to confess that was my first experience with ZMFs at all, as they are quite rare here in Germany.
