Don't say Tesla..
Tesla magic is burned to ground.
i could never turn on the late great Tesla. The man was smarter than Einstein and he said he was. Einstein could never match him. You hear what the bad one says. The tech was lost in the Great War of Atlantis. The moon belongs to the old ones. The lizard people are still pissed. 😤
😳😂😂😂 na that’s just a fairy tale or is it!🤣

All jokes aside 6550A power from GE is my favorite. I switched back to stock form and moving off 6550A to EL34 didn’t take any love away. That’s what’s amazing to be able to enjoy so many rolls vs Woo WA5 le where I only enjoyed one type of 300b.

It never gets boring. Most Excellent build!

Putting sound and build a side for Aegis, I found the board for the tubes to plug in kind of weakest of Aegis built though.
Kind of flimsy feeling. Feels like it's going to punch through whenever I installed the tubes....
Don't have that kind of feelings from WA6SE and ALO Studio Six....
Just my 2C.

Here are some initial impressions of my 1955 metal-base GZ34 in the Aegis. I’m using my current favorite input/output tube combo of black glass Tung Sol 6SU7GTY’s and KT-90’s.

To sum it up, it seems to manage the amazing balancing act of harnessing all of the control of a good solid-state while also maintaining all the benefits of tubes.

Bass is not quite as full as my go-to RCA JAN 5R4GY, and decay seems a little quicker as well. This was how I characterized my F32 Mullard GZ34 before I sold it. In my opinion, that rectifier seemed to suck the tube magic out of the Aegis. With it installed, the sound of the amp wasn’t as emotionally engaging to me as when I used the 5R4GY. This metal-base version of the GZ34 manages to keep the magic while upping the technicalities. It’s quite the feat!

More to come…

Nice! This is exactly what I am hearing.

I will add, that the background is super black, and the notes have really good pop. The amp sounds like it's been "super charged", and the music now sounds like it's being performed live more than ever before.

The GZ34 metal base (RS1) is legit.

I have two matched 5AR4 Matsushita HIFI metal base. The tube is better than stock if you are looking for the normal tube sound with stock input and output. My Phillips gz34 never hit the sweet spot on tube sound but the tube I miss is GZ33 from Mullard a slender coke bottle tube brown base. Stock sound is closer to Cayin more solid state but at least we are not stuck to their rectifiers. Companies using a sold state rectifiers always miss out with me. Cuff cuff Envy.

The GZ34 metal base (RS1) is legit.
Now you have to send it back!

Yep, this was a big mistake! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Now, I will have to buy one, and it's gonna be a minute until I can afford it.

Once I hear better, there is no going back. . .

On a plus, both your and @ckhirnigs113 findings of the Metal base GZ34 pretty much match mine of the Fat Base version F31 smooth plate, no notches. They can be had for a bit less than the metal base… although catching up.

I’ve been listening to electronic and EDM genres with the Fat Base plus EL38 and the bass, weight sounds spot on. Very fast dynamic sound good treble extension but smoother, less grain than the F32. The bass has weight and hits hard, fast. Layering is very good with distinct separation between instruments. As has been mentioned a liquid solid state sound/ish. Detail without harshness.

Edit. Just to add that the Fat Base GZ34, and I’d imagine the metal version to, has this uncanny knack of making distant sounds sound like they are quite a bit off in the distance. The layering of distant, mid and very close sounds is very good very distinct which gives a very nice 3d feel.

You just know you are going to end up with a metal 😜

Probably one of my most used… they’re very dynamic and can sound lean if the input/rectifier don’t have weight. Them two are early trough getter versions. Great value tube!!

Just for completeness you mean 🤔😂

Maybe I should borrow that one from you to see how much difference there is 😂
