A question for L0rdGwynn I guess?

When driving Senn’s HD800S my volume is around the 10 o’clock position, when driving Susvara’s around 4-5 o’clock position. My question is…does this drive the electronics any harder?

Thanks

In terms of wear and tear on the circuit? Technically yes as the output tube is contending with a higher AC output signal, but everything is within spec and these tubes are designed to handle more power than Aegis is demanding, so not in a way that will significantly reduce lifespan.

In this same vein of questioning, will using a 5R4GY or 5U4G with a higher VDROP, prolong the life of higher-powered output tubes like KT-90's or 6550's vs using a GZ34 with a low VDROP?

Yes, they are going to dissipate less power, but that power is then moved over to the rectifier. The loss of voltage is just changing positions. But in either case, they are running well within spec, nowhere near their maximum ratings, so lifespan differences are likely negligible.

Why doesn’t the ZMF Aegis get hot? Left it play 8 hours. Around the tubes is only warm unless you accidentally touch the tube. You must have put some Tesla magic in it.

Basically, a lot of the components outside the power supply that would heat up are outside the chassis (tubes, transformers, chokes), and the parts that heat up inside are well ventilated and properly spec'd so they do not overheat.

Sorry for off-topic, but I have 2 questions:

How do you store your tubes?
Is there a thread for 6SL7 tubes?

For all my tubes I use a lot, rotate around etc, I store in tube holders you would have seen over the last page or two.

For backups, I tend to store most of them in a flight case. However, some tubes like the 807 & EL39 don’t fit… should have bought a bigger case!

Yes, your post brought me to the question.
It’s a great idea, and I think I'll do the same for my favorite tubes.

Nice! :)
I'm thinking about storing my tubes in old ammunition boxes, like this:

Ok, maybe a smaller ones :D

How about just using a medicine organizer box? The types that you see doctors in movies use in the old days.

Don’t think I’ve seen them. The flight case was from Amazon… about £25 so nothing fancy but easy to store.
