Yulong D200 32bit 384KHz DSD DAC

  At least for the D200 it wasn't a whole new design it was more an update to the previous like how the D100 MKII improved upon the original D100. This DAC is like a culmination of the previous success (D100) paired with new hardware from the DA8. Since the D100 MKII has been discontinued for a while now, I think he may have wanted to fill in the gap left in the mid-fi range by building upon a previous DAC. 

Actually all the dac's in the Yulong line have seemed to me like a logical evolution. The D18 I have is basically the DA8 without the added features for DSD,  the headphone amp and the usb circuit. I haven't got the means to try it without buying a DA8,  but I have a feeling the dac section of the DA8 and the D18 have a lot in common.  It would be interesting to compare the sound quality of the two on the dac section alone. Audio gd is a very different animal as their designs win the award for the highest parts count in a box.

I went from D18 to DA8. I had the D18 for over a year, and when I A/B the two to verify it was a true upgrade i was not disappointed. Even with a USB/SPDIF converter mated with the D18 via AES/EBU it didn't stand on equal footing in any area besides the midrange. Literally every other aspect of sound is better on the DA8 via USB.

If that is the case, then DA8 should sound very similar to D18 when feeding PCM through SPDIF?

If that were true it would be approaching the price of the D18 which is still a current product usually sold around $700-$750. That might get confusing.

At the $500 level it would be competing head on with several Audio gd products. Not a comfortable place for Yulong to stand and fight. Audio gd is tough competition at that level.

Rougly.... Yulong said half price from DA8, if you consider US retail, that will be 50% from USD1300, if you buy from their taobao, that would be around USD1100 only. I think USD200 for US shipping plus maintenance plus decent pre and post sales support, thats a steal indeed.

Currently I am silly pleased with the D100 MKII. Allright, so it might be my flavour of the week. The DA8 is in the back of my mind but even used it's going to be a little crazy spending that money so this D200 seems a sweet spot contender for me. No gain switch though..?
