Hi everyone,

I'm having some serious issues re-terminating my Yuin PK1's. There is a coating on the cables (once the shielding is removed) its blue in color and meant to be the insulation between the signal cable and the shielding and it inhibits soldering and is impossible to remove.

If you have re-plugged Yuin PK1s before....how do I go about dealing with this issue? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Use a very hot soldering iron with a blob of solder and the insulation will burn off and you can tin the wires

cheers

I've tried that previously, it didn't work.

have you tried taking a lighter to the wire before you tin it?  sometimes that can burn off the enamel.

I second the lighter idea for removing the lacquer, but be careful not to melt the unstripped PVC, too.  Multiple brief passes work better than trying to burn it all in one shot.

Unlike your avatar, headphone cables aren't eeenveencible!

I use a aspirin tablet under the wire, when i touch it with a soldering iron (hot). I wouldn't breathe the fumes, although, they are prolly harmless. If i don't have an aspirin i use a panadol. The aspirin trick is pretty well known in the electronics community.

I second the lighter. Recabled a re252 for a friend and it worked like a charm!

i think nail polish will work but the the bad thing is once it dry, the cable will get too hard.
