See sig. No complaints about performance, but I really need to finish building a proper stand for it; the current stand is less than ideal. I also need to pick up more records - I've been on a used CD and SACD binge lately. I've been finding used silver discs as low as $2 each and can't resist.

Turntable upgrade is next !!!! Happy with the pro-ject as a starter table but I need to move up the ladder.

Pro-ject Expression III/Grado Statement Sonata>RSA XR-2>RSA Raptor>HD650 or Grado RS-1 (depending on music/mood)

think I've got it the way I want it on the top end of the turntable. Starting to eye the VPI turntables.

Unless of course I need to upgrade to an RSA XR-10b and Apache.

Who am I kidding, this is never going to end

microgroove to

B&O 4004 turntable w/ MMC 20EN phono cartridge to

Meridian 201 preamp to

Dyna Stereo 35 (tube!) amp to

modded Fisher 104 speakers --------------sounds good

planning to patch in the Stax (with tubed energizer)

To date the very best vinyl playback I ever heard was a Vivaldi direct-to-disc, played by some direct-drive Technics and a Shure V15 III cartridge, amped by a vintage, tubed Fisher receiver (a 500 IIRC) and delivered to the ears by modded Yamaha YH-1's.

Vinyl and tubes need each other.

Yamaha P-500 (DD) > Meridian 551 amp (with phono card) > Musical Fidelity XcanV3 > Senn HD540 or 650s.

And it's disgusting! And it's the source's fault of course. The Yamaha is an old girl and extremely budget. It sounded fine however through my loudspeakers, but through my headphone system it sounds flat (narrow soundstage), has very little stereo separation, and shows up every bit of static.

I'm not sure whether to persevere and try a better turntable, or just confine myself to CD/DAP for headphone use.
