Your favorite sub-$1,000 closed-back headphones?

I recently picked up the Sony MDR-Z7M2 but I was curious what other closed-back headphones in a similar price range people were high on. Just curious more than anything...

I have been looking at the Sony Z7M2 headphones. The reviews are quite dispirit. Certainly the build quality looks to be excellent. Right now I am trying to find a good price for them.

I've only owned a few even worth mentioning but for the ones I've heard I'd prob have to say a pair of denon the model which I can't remember. Glossy shiny mahogany looks... Closely followed by dt770 tied with shure shr840. The the Roland rh200. Then Sony mdr xd400.

Im thinking your talking about the AHD7000 from Denon

I'm all about the DT1770s right now. They have the most exciting sound I've ever heard in a headphone. Despite my LCD-2s still having the "new toy" effect, I keep coming back to the DT1770s.

I really wish more people either had the chance to try them out, or were more willing to roll the dice on them like I did.

- Fostex/Massdrop TH-X00 (enough bass, good seal, pads repleacable, easy to drive, non-fatiguing)

Was considering upgrading to Fostex/Massdrop TRX-00 Ebony, but doubt it is a big enough an upgrade worth $700 (that's what they cost after shipping/taxex/VAT to Europe).

Am looking for Denon AD-D9200 drop below $1000 USD mark.

The Focals are way way too bright and bass thin for me.

Have you tried the ZMF Eikon or Sony MDR-Z1R?
