I just received volumes 1 through 5 of the series Living in Oblivion 80's greatest hits. IF you are looking for obscure 80s music these have it. They are made by EMI and the quality is good.

I just got the two Penderecki discs (one directed by the composer on EMI's Matrix series, the other directed by Antoni Wit on Naxos, both Polish National Radio orchestra) and the Lutoslawski on Wednesday. That came with Polanski's The Tenant on DVD (was $10 from Amazon).

Today I just got:

Charles Mingus -- Mingus Ah Um on Sony (originally Columbia Jazz)

Bill Evans -- Live at the Vanguard Vol. 1 on I don't remember which label.

Was listening to Mingus before... great stuff! Love at first listen. I listened to the EMI Penderecki a little last night -- the "Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima" -- and it's good too, though I don't quite love it. Very exciting! Also received Hitchcock's The 39 Steps on DVD for just over five bucks shipped today.

Matt Elliott, The Mess We Made (sublime, if not a bit laid back, albeit no more so than I Poopoo On Your Juju; will be listening to again)
Philip Glass, The Hours (nice return to form...ish...)
Mike Keneally, Wooden Smoke (not bad, but it ain't no Pink Floyd)
Ephel Duath, Rephormulae (haven't listened to, yet)
Velvet Acid Christ, Hex Angel (Utopia/ Dystopia) (haven't listened to, yet)

...amongst many others...

I doubt I even own 5 CD's. NVM, I found the CD's I actually legally own.

"The Great Clarinet Quintets"
--Reginald Kell

A Sabine Meyer CD That has the Mozart Clarinet Concerto on it. and says "MOZART DEBUSSY TAKEMITSU" at the top. It's grey.

"Gioacchino Rossini"
--Konzertucke fur Klerinetten, Fagott, und Orchester
(the entire CD label is german)

I can't find the other CD, which is a beethoven CD. oh well. There's my CD collection.

You're making those up! Your punishment, for being caught, is that you are forbidden from using the words mucus or viscous (or any derivatives, including of the made-up variety) in any future posts. (OTOH, please do continue to make words up.)

Having to picture such things aurally is its own purgatorial punishment.

One of the first bassists I ever performed with, Akban "Essie" Essiet, really did want to call his first jazz band The Mucous Producers after hearing our health-conscious drummer complain about milk.

Hello everyone. I'm new in these parts, and I think I'm going to like it here

New albums? Well ever since my friend and I got to talking about the "source" issue I've been digging through my old CD collection. But that doesn't really count, does it?

1. Beatles- Abbey Road (LP- 89 cents, if you can believe that)

2. Fleetwood Mac- Rumours (LP)

3. Janis Joplin- Pearl (LP)

4. Joni Mitchell- Blue (LP)

5. Joni Mitchell- Hejira (LP)

Last five for me:

A couple from one of the most underrated guitarist around.

Allan Holdsworth - Metal Fatique and I.O.U.

Some Mexican rock and roll -

Mana - Revolucion de Amor

Some New Orleans R&B

Dr. John - Creole Moon

and a live one.

The Allman Brothers Band Live at Altell Pavillion - recorded 8/10/03. This was an instant live recording of last Sundays show. Pretty good sound quality. It appears to have been taken right off the sound board.

As usual I have purchased more than 5 cd recently. So in order to qualify for this thread I am going to list 5 as one.
1) Living in Oblivion, greatest hits of the 80's five cd set.
2) Electiric Light Orchestra-The Essential Collection
3) The Very Best of Deep Purple
4) Yes-Highlights The very best of Yes
5) Foghat-The Essentials

I have on order awaiting arrival of Queen Greatest Hits Platinum 3 cd box set, coming from England, and AC/DC the BBC Tapes, coming from Ireland, and Timelife Animal Rock, from the boring USA.
