Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends

This album has been on my vinyl wishlist ever since I got my turntable. It hasn't however been high enough on my priority list for me to feel like going through the trouble of ordering a copy. However, when I came across the LP while browsing my local record store's vinyl section, I immediately grabbed it for myself. I've never been the biggest fan of Coldplay but this album I've always liked a lot ever since it came out. The packaging of this vinyl issue is also very nice. I can't speak for the sound, for I haven't heard the record yet, but I'm hoping it isn't as compressed as its CD counterpart.

The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland [Mobile Fidelity silver label numbered limited edition LP]

I believe I have heard the name Sisters of Mercy somewhere but I've never actually listened to their music. When I saw this MoFi silver label issue at my record store I returned home with the Coldplay record above and took a quick listen to this album on Spotify. The music reminded me a lot of The Cure, a group whose music from the early 80s I greatly enjoy (Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornography), so I went back today and snatched the rare treat for myself. This is my first silver label release, so I hope the difference to regular "premium" MoFi releases isn't noticeable. This was cut with the same system I believe, pressed at RTI and all that jazz. The packaging is a noticeable step down from MoFi's normally so wonderfully thick jackets, some of the best I've ever come across.

Burial - Rival Dealer

I'm always typically so behind on new Burial releases. I guess I'm just not as hyped as the diehard Burial fans. Anyway, my local store had this both on CD and vinyl so I decided to grab the CD and give it a spin.

Simply downloading the album is free at Bandcamp.

John Coltrane - Sun Ship

I own around thirty Coltrane albums at the moment but for some reason this album has been missing from my collection until now. I saw it for a reasonable price while record shopping and picked is up as the huge Coltrane fan that I am. I must say I am impressed; this album is phenomenal!

Porya Hatami - Land [limited edition CD-R, edition of 100]
http://shop.inneroceanrecords.com/album/porya-hatami-land

Porya Hatami’s ‘Land’ explores a vibrant soundscape of hypnotic loops, delicately percussive chimes and manipulated field recordings to evoke the sensual, blissful minutiae of the natural world and of the life that both inhabits and interprets it. Fundamentally delicate and yet insistently, breathtakingly complete, Hatami’s keen ear for microscopic levels of sonic detail allows the album as a whole to sketch a wide-screen vision of nature at work.

Buried deep within the gauzy, feather-light haze that permeates the album is a deep-seated sense of purpose – the insistent, bubbling loops underpinning ‘Autumn’; the porcelain synth washes of ‘Sea’; the disquieting crackles and squeaks of ‘Bug’. It’s an album obsessed with both stillness and movement, and the contradictions inherent in occupying those two modes of being lie at the heart of the record.

Thematically profound and tonally complex, the album charts a course through a fragile natural world, constructing an exquisitely intricate tone poem from the manifold sounds of the earth and its transitory inhabitants.

Suddenly find myself on a classic opera hunt.

Last few titles:

Giulini Marriage of Figaro
Callas 30 Complete Operas
Der Ring des Nibelungen (Zyx reissue of mono recordings by Keilberth and Furtwangler)
Solti Deluxe Ring (including the 24/48 version on Bluray)
Living Stereo Box (This got me started.  I was listening to the usual audiophile warhorses in the collection and then switching to the Traviata performance with
Anna Moffo had me thinking:  Why not go back to the golden age of opera recording?)

Holy cow, you are diving in head first, enjoy !!
And I totally agree about the "golden age of recording".
What have been able to capture on 35mm magnetic tape is just stunning. The Living Stereo Box is amazing. I also got that a couple of month back as it reappeared for sale on Amazon where some sellers already were asking "collectable" prices. For the original/regular price it's a steal.

My first Zappa records. They had "One Size Fits All" as well but I couldn't afford to get all 3

Good start, especially The Grand Wazoo! Be warned that there are 99 official Zappa albums, 62 released while he was alive, and 37 posthumously.
