Indeed. It only occurred to me now that the soundtrack might still be available despite the game coming out nearly twenty years ago. No need to even say it is one of the best video game soundtracks of all time, and one of the best games ever made. A true classic. I can't believe they only released the game for the first time in Europe when the DS version came out. Chrono Cross remains unreleased here to this day…

Alcest - Écailles de Lune [colored vinyl]

This LP was surprisingly pricey and for some reason I actually expected it to be a double LP, but the packaging and the vinyl itself do look quite nice though. A poster is also included, but I don't care about such things. Kind of wanted this for the artwork but the music is quite nice too.

Lars Danielsson - Libera Me [hybrid SACD]

I went to see Iiro Rantala, Lars Danielsson and Cæcilie Norby performing with a big band last weekend. Big band music isn't really my thing, but all three were phenomenal. I got this Danielsson album at the concert hall and he was kind enough to sign it for me! The man is a phenomenal bass player. He has appeared on over 500 records to date.

Pat Metheny - The Way Up

My second Pat Metheny record so far. I am most familiar with him through Steve Reich. A lot of people seem to be all gaga over Metheny, which is why I decided to pick up this record, but I must say I wasn't particularly impressed and I am unlikely to pick up a third record by him anytime soon. On first listen I guess the album was actually pretty okay, but on two consecutive listens I found myself liking it less and less each time – the opposite of a grower for me I guess. The only cat whose playing actually appealed to me was the pianist, so perhaps I might check out his other work at some point.

Vijay Iyer Trio - Accelerando

If you have never heard of Vijay Iyer, I recommend taking a look at this Wikipedia article. His approach to music is most fascinating and despite having an education in hard sciences he says he experiences music on a very visceral level. He says that dance is a bodily way of listening to music and he never wants to lose that foundation of rhythmic communication in his work. Just check out the video and you'll know exactly what Accelerando is all about.
