recently purchased these two box sets from Harmonia Mundi (30 CDs) and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi (50 CDs) - both for a pretty good price. they look similar but there is no overlap between the two and the sound quality from these companies is generally excellent.

Wovenhand - "Ten Stones" (LP Vinyl)
Wovenhand - "Ten Stones" (CD)
Yea, I know, silly, but I needed both. One of the best artists making music now, "Mosaic" was a huge favorite in 2006, and continues to be. Passionate, highly moving music. "Blush Music" is one for the ages. The last 16 Horsepower "Folklore" is like a modern classic. Lillium "Short Stories" is a beautiful DVD-A (only 16/48 though). Call me a fanatic, I know it's true.

And before that ...

Willard Grant Conspiracy - "Pilgrim Road"
Brand new, love these guys, especially the somber "Regard the End" from a few years ago. Ordered straight from their site and got a nice thank you email from Robert Fisher. Class band.

Augie March - "Sunset Studies"
The debut from one of my favorite modern pop bands. Had it on my wishlist for quite a time, but heard news of their upcoming new one in October so pulled the trigger on one of the amazon merchants. My music world would be
so much different without the internet, even though it was fun when I was a kid rummaging through the import racks, I'd never get what I was really looking for. Discovered some great stuff, though

The Dodos - "Visiter"
Some nice and interesting folkie stuff from earlier this year. Kinda like the indie-darling Fleet Foxes, but better. Maybe a touch of Animal Collective. Yea, just my opinion, get your own
smily_headphones1.gif

The Flaming Stars - "Born Under a Bad Neon Sign"
Another big favorite band from modern times that I probably rate much higher than they warrant, but I still love this stuff. Kind of a mix of Calexico and Nick Cave. This is their last one from a year or two ago, finally got around to it.

Davey,
Always jump to read your posts. Already put Wovenhand's new one in the cart with the new releases from Okkervil River and Calexico. Good to know that you're around!

Sounds like good exercise! Hey, been meaning to ask you what's the big dealio with the new Eno/Byrne? Does it sound like the Bush, or when Talking Heads was at their peak? Or is it a mature take on the ethnic sound? Or does it even seem that eerie? To be honest, since that Wrong Way Up album with John Cale that goes back at least 15 years, new Eno music hasn't been a big part of my diet, though there has been some good music on each record.

I'm really liking "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today." It definitely doesn't sound like "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts." It's obviously more about David Byrne. There's a modern gospel "ethnic" aspect in there somewhere, but I'm not hearing much of Byrne's world music experimentation. (I've listened to but haven't really been very enthusiastic about Byrne's post-T. Heads solo work...) If you blended together and took three-parts of "More Songs About Buildings And Food," "Fear Of Music," and "Speaking In Tongues;" added one part Eno's "Another Day On Earth," and a pinch of "Remain In Light," (maybe less than a pinch...) and you would have something very close to "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today." I doubt that it will attain that cult-classic status of "Bush" for staying power, but it is really nice to hear what these two can still produce together...
