Grado SR225 for metal, and DT880 for classical. Good combination. Though I slightly prefer AKG K601 over DT880, but thats just personal taste.

wow... i just read that mod instruction post for the denon md5000. i wanna do it!!! buddy raves big time about how good they sound. now if i can find the original d5000 for under $400 that would be sweet!

Erm. Used Sennheiser HD600-650 for $250 shipped + Amp of choice (DIY would work your money best) = Movie wonderland... Idk about Senns and metal, but eh...

Second option, like olblueyez said, is two sets of cans.

For movies, Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 80 ($90-200, depending how well you search and if you go with used or new, ). It's always $106 on ebay @ cheapest, and if you have a coupon Like I did, great. For music, I HAVE TO say Grado. Sorry!
