  Ok, I've done some comparisons between the MT220, MDR 7520 and HP100.  Below are my impressions.
 
MY setup is Foobar 2000 FLAC -> ODAC -> Burson Soloist
 
Note that these impressions are not super-detailed, I mainly just jotted stuff down as I was listening to each one.  So this is going to be a breakdown of that.
 
Bass -- HP100 = MT220 -> 7520
Mids -- HP100 = MT220 -> 7520
Treble -- HP100 -> MT220 -> 7520
Sounstage -- HP100 --> MT220 -> 7520
Imaging -- HP100 -> MT220 --> 7520
Comfort -- HP100 = MT220 -> 7520
 
 
Overall -- HP100 -> MT200 --> 7520
 
 
 
As you can see already, I preferred (barely) the HP100 to the MT220 and both of those to the 7520.  What I can tell you is that the HP100 and MT220 are so close that it was almost hard to pick a winner. The main differences between the two are the slightly more treble air and bigger soundstage of the HP100.  
 
Of course, one could argue that the MT220 is better since it has a smoother treble, meatier sound and more intimate soundstage.  It's all down to preference really.  I prefer the HP100's presentation (treble detail, soundstage and slightly tighter bass) but the MT220 is very good as well.  
 
I'm torn honestly, I can easily recommend both headphones to someone looking for a closed can in this price range.  I will also say that the MT220 is easier to drive than the HP100.  The MT220 play fine from my iOS devices where the HP100 really needs a little amping to shine.
 
The 7520 was kind of like the odd man out here.  To me, the real race was between the HP100 and MT220.  The 7520 was a bit edgy in the mids and there was occasional harshness in the treble.  It also sounded a bit metallic compared to the other two and to my ears had a sort of reverb-like soundstage thing going on.  The 7520 had more bass than the other two, but to me, it seemed like more mid-bass where the HP100 and MT220 had deeper, tighter sub bass (which I love).  I'm not saying the 7520 is worse than the other two, but to my ears, I definitely preferred the HP100 and MT220.  
 
I actually compared the MT220 to my Philips X1 just for giggles and was surprised.  Just a quick comparison, but to me, the MT220 sounds like a closed X1.  Similar sound signatures, warmer, great bass while still maintaining excellent detail retrieval.
 
All in all, I'm very impressed with the MT220.

The 7520 does have the most resolution of them all though. Its just that the timbre is off. The tones are like you say. During bass tests I found the 7520 to have more resolution down low than even the th600 and some orthos. Its just not as tight as it needs to be and the midbass you mention next to the shouty mids and small soundstage makes it sound cramped. It does reach as low but the midbass makes it seem like it doesnt. I found the mt220 later on to be only average in bass detail and tightness but very dynamic and responsive to the track, amorphous even.

 Thanks for sharing that review, that is kind of what I was expecting as well. Have to spend some more time with the MT220 before I writeup my impressions. How about the comfort factor and isolation?

Got them this morning but only had 10 minutes with then before flying out with the kids, but first impressions are very good. I'll put up some in depth opinions when I get some time with them, and maybe a direct blow for blue against the d2k if people are interested?

On a side note, I asked my daughter aged 3 what she wanted to listen to in the car, answer: Tool.

Well, short answer, these are pretty darn good!

Exactly as prescribed by others comparing these to the D2K; Bass extension is similar, bit of an uplift in the mid bass but barely, mids are more forward and lush, treble is smoother and less bright but still revealing.

Soundstage is more closed in but with this comes more dynamics and impact. D2K soundstage is very wide for a closed can but that's mostly down to the fact it's not really closed

I like the timbre on these, snare drum is better than the D2K...was very weird going back to the D2K after spending some time with these, snare just sounded off and can't say I'd ever singled that out before.

One annoyance, for some reason I'm getting a slight but noticeable hum through the Matrix Mini-i only when using these. It's only noticeable when nothings playing or at the beginning of a quiet track but now I know it's there.

They are noticeably more sensitive than both the D2K and HPH-200 yet shouldn't be:

HPH-MT220 = 37 Ohms - 99dB sensitivity.
D2K = 25 Ohms - 106dB sensitivity.
HPH-200 = 48 Ohms - 98.5dB sensitivity.

I have to turn the mini up 10dB to get to the same levels as the MT220. I've tried them out of the Topping HP out and also my phone without issue so they are just not playing nice for some reason. They sound great it's just now I know it's there I'm listening for it........

So, well, now I'm looking at other DAC/amps

One other quick note, these strike me as being quite similar to the GR07 in sound.....a sound I've been looking for in a can. I've always loved the way the GR07 does guitar bite and drums, these may just fit the bill.

very very initial impressions....the seller said 50hours put in. I am into my first 4 hours.
 
( Listening thru Audiogd NFB10.32 in single ended mode...macAir...Itune..Audirvana software...AIFF format..cabledyne silver USB cable..)
running briefly thru my vocals playlist..
airy, high effortless extension very significant on this headfone, even on my first listen thru my android fone.
vocals are not recessed, Vanessa Williams..Fergie...Kelly Sweet..all breathing, throating n swallowing with intimacy..blush.
It's a tall envelope of sound around my head. Thats the immediate effect i get.
The cups are slightly shallow, i need to add some foam to the backend of the pad to make it more comfy for my flappyears.
Otherwise the seal is great..good isolation.
Bass, is enuf..textured..some slight rumble...not denonrumble yet...i might feel otherwise with more songs..as it is..
it is quite balanced ..not a basshead can for sure.
 
Length...it's a coiled cable..it says 1.2m when coilED..
but i can easily pulled it all the way to say 6 or 7 feet? maybe 8.
 
Doesnt come with a pouch...doesnt fold flat....looks fashionably utilitarian. i wont feel bad with this can in Mcdonalds.

I found the bottom end to have plenty of rumble, ran a test tone comparison with the d2k and it's just as present down there.

Are you finding them surprisingly sensitive?
