I dont have previous. But gen 4 have slightly (may be not slightly)  muddy bass as i know. May be some one call it "massive".

I own the gen 4 and think its bass is pretty impressive. However, yeah, some says the bass is too muddy and uncontrollable ^^

Well, impressive bass is what I paid for in the previous hybrids. And got it too.
 
Depending on what you listen to, you might need to EQ somewhat, as with everything else imo. Personally I prefer to have more than enough bass than not having it and trying to find it all the time. I use the previous hybrids for classical / baroque music only and the bass they deliver is p e r f e c t for that genre while any hint of harshness in the highs would be a total and absolute deal breaker.
 
BTW, them previous hybrids have that tiny hole too, what happens if we block it, will they explode or something?

Received my HD today the sound is not bad at all, i'm using the Sony hybrid tips. Bert nove too with JVC spiral for tips.

With stock tips the sound degrades a lot and doesn't show the best of this iem.

They are a little bit better and more durable than the Comply, washable and as i bought in 2 pairs every time, he ships a nice little case for them
