How so ? Also what is the sound signature like ?
I like the soft, warm presentation of the AK4499. ROHM is a detail monster.
I am curious what the new ES9039PRO sounds like.

I'm pretty sure you got 4499 and Rohm mixed up ) 4499 very detailed and cold and rhythmically muddled, Rohm warm and undefined slow (this is a pcm1794 mod). ES9039 is detailed but not exaggerated, very fast with perfect rythmic similar to good multibit DACs, and very natural in sound. And best of all is its dynamic abilities, I haven't heard anything like that before.

Good to hear. I wasn't aware the ES9039 had been implemented in many devices yet. What did you compare?

Perfect. I will be strongly considering this one, especially as it’s available with non-ESS DACs (yes, I’m also not the biggest ESS fan, especially of the monopoly they’ve had for a while). I’m in the market for a powerful portable DAC/amp. This seems like it will compete with the Fiio Q7.

i didnt spend much time with it but man this beast is powerful and the bass sounds spectacular.
edit: ive heard many ess dacs... this has none of the glare nor sterile sound that ess dacs tend to have.

Yeah, at some point I grabbed the Shanling h7. If I remember correctly they started teasing the xd05pro in September ‘22, almost a year now.

I’m guessing production issues, but I can appreciate them taking the time to work out the kinks before release. More often these days I feel like we get buggy gear that’s fixed after release. Also, I think they initially were going to use the es9038pro chip, but switched to the es9039pro. It’s been way too long though. Im surprised there hasn’t been something similar and/or superior released by competitors.
