xDSD Gryphon: birth of a ‘head-fi’ legend

I would stress that you don’t think about the date, rather the reasons why we chose it and the flexibility we were given with that chip. There is far more than meets the eye on paper.

Outside of that, I’ll let the sound of our products like the Gryphon that use the same chip speak for themselves.

Another reason could be cost savings by using an older chip. You should give user new toys specially when you charge top dollar for it.

It actually isn’t, but I appreciate the consideration.

Not questioning the sound, but as I am in semi-chip industry, newer chip has its edge over old ones.
If iFi uses newer chip, it might make product SQ better.

When it comes to DAC chips, newer is not necessarily better! Guys, this is not a processor...
Look at Schiit's flagship Yggy DAC - it uses a very old DAC chip. I see no issue at all with using an older DAC chip if implemented properly and the final product sounds good.
May I suggest we wait for impressions / reviews from people that actually auditioned the Gryphon?

But again we saying there hasn't been any improvement in digital domain since 2003? Then why put a new case on older chips and why not keep selling them as they were 20 years ago? Or you saying the difference between old and new chip is so subtle that human hearing won't even notice? Well in that case I'd say why have many variants of identical hardware if the change is difficult to analyse. RAMBLING OVER! :)

What other products use this chip?

IMHO Some worry over the newest chipset others enjoy the sound they are getting out of a product.
I personally love what iFi has done with the DAC chip

I agree.
It's not the DAC. it's the implementation that matters most.

Nobody has mentioned the DAC specs vs Gryphon specs yet and how do Ifi manage to get a 768Khz sampling rate from a chip that's only capable of 192Khz.

Whoops I just did.

Spoiler, Ifi wont tell us exactly but they found a secret bit of DAC chip magic apparently who cares if it sounds great.

For example the internal digital filter of DSD1793 can be disabled and the DAC is then paired with the external DSP processor. Usually its presence determines the class of the device.

A product's sound quality isn't determined by its DAC alone and there are fer more important aspects (output stage, power supply etc.) than this component.

Not questioning the sound, but as I am in semi-chip industry, newer chip has its edge over old ones.

In some areas that's true, not so much in others

I just got a dispatched notification from Amazon so I may get mine tomorrow if RM deliver and I have a day off work by coincidence to compare it with the original xDSD. I will be here to share my findings.
Please do, we look forward to your findings :beerchug:

Anybody know what comes in the box, have ordered mine here in Australia just waiting for it to arrive, never had an IFI product before, but super excited
This is shown in the promo pic on Ifi's product page so I would think its what is included.
