Beta firmware version 1.03beta for the X1 is now available:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/zmsu2hsyt19ob71/X1FW1.03Beta.zip

Please note the following regarding beta firmware:
1. This is a development beta. Please consider carefully whether you want to upgrade to it. (You can always downgrade back to 2.0)
2. Problems encountered with this firmware may be posted to this thread--please keep the main X1 thread free from clutter regarding bugs on beta firmware.
3. To avoid public misunderstanding, please refrain from posting about bugs and problems with the beta firmware outside this beta firmware discussion thread.

The following changes and improvements were made to firmware 1.03 compared to 1.00:
1. Added support for M3U playlists.
2. Added setting to enable / disable use of in-line remotes on earphones. (note: do not hold the remote button when enabling remote from the UI.)
3. Improved compatibility with in-line remotes on earphones.
4. Enabled playback of songs with sample rate under 32kHz.
5. Added option to choose between showing filename or title from ID3 tag in the Now Playing screen.
6. Fixed issue with menu "skipping" when moving beyond the first page of System Settings.
7. Numerous fixes to errata in UI text and UI graphics elements.

Looking forward to everyone's feedback :)

Playlist works perfectly Joe.  The only thing it doesn't do is add our manually created playlists to the playlist category.  This should be a relatively easy thing to do for your team.  When you run a manual scan - it would be just a matter of adding anything with the appropriate suffix to the playlist category list.

I've also checked the title vs file name and it works perfectly.

Inline remote works perfectly with Apple Earpods.  Doesn't work at all with the inline control on the Fidue A81.  I have no problem with that though.

Thanks Brooko. I also note that it's not necessary to have the #EXTM3U header on all the M3U files anymore. This should fix a lot of playlists that were getting tripped up.

On a scarier note, my preproduction X1 threw a sinister "system error" at me in the middle of the update to this version of firmware, and pressing the reset button (which resets the X1 and turns it on again) threw me right back at the "system error" prompt, (I assume because the firmware was borked and turning it on with the borked firmware ends up in an error regardless of the reset). I found that the solution was to hold the upper left button while pressing the reset hole, so that when it powered back on it entered firmware update mode again. And the second time updating the firmware worked. (otherwise I would be pulling this firmware off mediafire right now  )

I suppose you didn't have any such problems

Hi Joe
Can I have a link to D/L FW1.0 in-case I encounter issues?
I am travelling now, boarding a plane in a few hours and I won't have internet for my 13Hr flight.
I like to D/L the original version as backup so I can play with this on the plane on my laptop.
Thanks

Turning on inline control support doesn't "stick". I have to re-enable it every time I restart the player.

also, it doesn't work at least for me, i mean i don't want to use this feature for now, but it should work properly. Off should be Off, On should be On and not just kill the feature. At least in my case the feature is completely disabled.

Kind Regards

I have a really silly question. When doing a firmware update, do you have to use a different micro SDHC card or can you place the firmware file on the same card that contains your music?
I just received the X1 this past week and will probably not upgrade the firmware until it is officially released by FiiO, but I don't want to wipe out my library when upgrading the firmware. I downloaded the users guide from the FiiO website and it says to use a "blank card of 32 GB or under" when updating the firmware.

Thanks.

I just use my 64Gb card that has all the music on it.  Works great on both X1 and X5.

You mean your remote worked with version 1.0 but not 1.03?

Hi @JamesFiiO , @Joe Bloggs

Not too sure if you saw my previous post, but I have a suggestion.

It would nice if the next firmware upgrade can include the display of bit rate of the music currently playing. (Example: 320Kbps MP3, 192Kbps AAC, 1411Kbps PCM WAV). Currently there is only the format of the music displayed, and beside would be the sampling rate. (WAV 44.1KHz/16 Bits)   Maybe can add in for the new update to display as (WAV 1411Kbps PCM 44.1KHz/16 Bits) or (MP3 320Kbps 44.1KHz/ 16 Bits) Somewhere along that line. It is a nice to have feature I feel.

I installed the Beta firmware earlier in the day. Love the new features but the in line mic control werent working on my vmoda or monster android compatible cables. Any idea if its the firmware or the cables? I thought play, pause, next a previous should be working but no luck.

Assuming that you installed the "Beta" firmware, i think that at the moment is supported only Apple kind of cable control: i have Play/Pause on apple Controls but not on Single button control...
