Sorry to side-track a little bit but I just wrote to AndyKong that I have both a HD-222 and 224 on offer. If there's anyone who's taken interest after what's been written about them feel free to PM me. They're in my way.

Thanks for your kind offer, please check PM.

Currently thinking about possibilities for custom paintwork for both HD540II and AKG K1000. Might get a company to spray me some very interesting looking HD540II parts. Black, silver, gold or some colour mixes might look pretty cool!

I can understand painting the HD540, but painting the AKG K1000 would be sacrilege

. In any case, the red plastic covering on the K1000 metal headband is like Teflon. Paint won't stick to it, although you can cut it and remove it if you're really really careful with an X-Acto knife. And to paint the K1000 metal mesh grills, you would have to remove them from the driver assemblies, which is possible but very difficult (certainly nowhere near as easy as snapping apart a Sennheiser).

oOCosmoMemoryOo,
I just got a pair of HD540IIs but as usual the pads are gone. Seeing your assembly line of parts, can I get a purchase a set from you? Please advise as soon as you are able.
Thanks!!

Just collected my HD540G few days ago, 600 ohm version with box and certificate. The whole package arrived in good condition, have tested it at my friend's system, sounds fabulous, definitely a keeper in the long run.

Have the following issue that need your help/recommendation:

(1) Serial number is 52xx, I assume this is an early version,is there any different with the later production? Other then the wooden box?

(2) Earpad: The seller bought this from England, and this is the earpad on the headphone when he received it. It looks like a HD250 linear II earpad to me, or was it a HD430 earpad replacement?

I have no problem with the deep of this earpad - I don't have large ears, but I want out if the ORIGINAL earpad of the HD540G is a hybrid like the HD540 I? or was it a pleather similar to this one?

(3) The cable is a replacement too, I believe it is a 37974 cable. So the original 540G used 3.5mm connections too? It doesn't sound right to have 3.5mm plug on a 600ohm headphone? Was the original 540G headphone cable comes with 6.3mm? A fancy one with golden 6.4mm or a standard one?

Many thanks in advance, will share my thought on the headphone when I get to familiar with the headphone under my own system.

Wow! Those are gorgeous heaphones!
Not sure if the golds came stock with pleather earpads or not...
If not, and the pads are fairly deep, they are probably HD 250 linear II pads, if they are fairly shallow they are HD 430 earpads.
Hard to tell by looking at the photos.
Anyone else know?

Thanks, the seller claimed this is in premium condition in his FS post, and I knew the earpad and cable have been replaced in advance, so I consider myself getting a honest deal afterall.

Since this my first encounter of old Senn Headphone, I have not seen or tried out alike such as HD250/HD430/560, so it is difficult to judge on comparison basis, I simply don't have anything to compare to. I want to find out whether this is a HD250 or HD430 earpad because I planned to collect both earpad and tryout which is the preferred earpad to my preference, so identify what I have on hand is step 1.

Attached two close up on the earpad to faciilitate discussion.

Looks like HD 250 II linear pads.
I may be wrong though.
