I have tried to so some research to clear up the controversy surrounding the "day and night" claims that have been made for the LOD.

The chip used in the Fuze is the AMS 3525. Here is the full AMS 3525 data sheet

I have clipped out the specs for the DAC input to line output and the DAC input to HP output for easy comparison:

orig.jpg

The outputs are .035 apart
The SNR is slightly better on the HP output by 2 dB
The DR is slightly better on the HP output by 1 dB
The THDs are exactly the same

final warning please let's keep it civil some people hear a difference with the LOD and some people think there is no difference, lets leave it at that. Neither statistics nor verbatim examples from people tell the whole story. The stat are taken at 1klhz and not over the full spectrum that a headphone is driven over nor do the stats speak to how the amp drive different ohm loads. Also a LODs can only do but so much given the somewhat meager dac chips that are in most portable devices. So please folks find a new bone to chew on.

Amen. Can we get back to simply praising the Fuze's overall appeal, please?

With Rockbox compatibility now a reality, it shouldn't be hard.

All I have to say is the first one I had was defective, I think it might have had a headphone jack problem? Anyways that one had no highs and sounded small and compressed. But, this on sounds well amazing, great deep-smooth low end and crisp highs and awesome midrange. I tested it against my touch 2g, my new sony s730, my cowon, and my nano 1st gen. I have to say that at a flat EQ setting it bested them all, more detail, soundstage and just depth and warmth.

No hint of a "digital" sound, really amazing. I thought the eq kind of weakened the sound, but I don't really use eq anyways- especially when a player sounds this good flat. I ordered a 16 gig micro sd for 80 bucks and have a 20 gig killer sounding dap for 180 dollars. The screen resolution sucks and the gui could use some work, but it is serviceable. I will use my touch for surfing and movies and my nano and sony for general use, but this baby will be my new "serious" listening dap

By the way the radio has better reception than my new sony and the build quality is not as bad as I expected for s cheap player. Now sandisk make a "deluxe" model with a killer screen and a better gui, and the same sound chip and I will be first in line.

Edit: The link for the 16 gig sdhc micro card didn't work, says not available. Anyone know anybody that has them? All I see are 8 gig for around 20 to 40 dollars.

Hey how come your 2nd Fuze you bought sounded better than the first one, I mean at the end of the day isnt a Fuze a Fuze.

Never knew you could get the 8GB in Black, I thought that 8 only came in Silver.

Interesting. My experience is the exact opposite (on the opposite coast, no less...).

Not too sure whether or not people knew about this but newegg.ca is currently selling a recertified sansa fuze 4gb/blue for 39.99$ CAD. I believe that this is the fixed product from previously defect ones. Still very cheap price and I would get one or two.

However, is there any way to find out newegg's stocking info on their products? ncix.com clearly shows that they have them in stock but nothing of sort for newegg.ca. Newegg.ca clearly offers better price with free shipping so I want to make a deal with them if possible but stocking info is what is holding me back from getting one from them.

If Newegg has them in stock, they are available for sale, if not, it will only allow you to be notified when they are back in stock. Are you looking to see how many they have? If you want the number they have, you may have to call in to get that info.

Great! Thank you very much. I just wanted to know whether or not they even had one in their storage so I do not have to wait out for weeks to get my precious player. Now I am off to checkout and get my new Sansa Fuze.

I had many mp3 products from Sansa and they all served me faithfully. Even though most of them died out due to frequent use outdoors and what not, I love them. Even after getting ipod, I wanted something new so I tried out bunch of mp3 players in the shop and Sansa fuze's sound definitely hit me on the spot. Can't wait to own this great player.
