What you have to realize is that that one sounds exactly as the band intended, and therefore cannot be considered bad sound. They were intimately involved with the recording/mastering process, as described in their book. (Of course, this applies to all of their recent CDs.)

Yes the demo does sound really bad, but the debut album makes up for it by sounding amazing.

It certainly does. One of the best sounding CDs I own.

Do you actually own the demo tape? I just found a copy of it offline.

"Live at Kelvin Hall" - The Kinks

I bought this album with LP, and was surprised for a poor sound.
It doesn't change now.

"Live at Leeds" of The WHO was also the worst before.
However, the sound has improved to "Live at Leeds" - The who.

^^These two albums right here are the definition of the loudness war.

This is a waveform of the CD release (top) and the LP release (bottom)http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...h_waveform.png

x2 on the chili peppers.

Californication is just terrible. I havn't heard it since I got good headphones - really can't listen to it.

I always used to wonder why I would get bored with them. Now I know. I mean, it's pretty good music, but the SQ is TERRIBLE! I can't listen to an entire chili peps song.

Completely agree. Sounds bad on LP as well.

Interestingly, I was listening to that one just last night.
I didn't notice clipping, but it was loud all the way through with no dynamics at all.
Too bad, because I agree that the content is great.
