Hey all, I'm very reluctantly, thinking about selling my WA5 with EML XL 300b tubes. I've gotten to the point where I only listen to IEMs. I'd prefer someone within driving distance of Kentucky, but they’ll be packed we'll for any potential buyer.
…the RAD-0s are part of your audio history, then?….

Good luck with that, many burned themselves with EMLs attrocious support

I know and a big thing which I’ve posted on in the past is they are contactless. Now I buy from George at TubesUSA and he’s always answering his phone. He is better as he has a tube amp company and knows his stuff. When I buy NOS from him he does one final test and listens on his amplifiers to see if they do match up to what his tube tester says and are not noisy. All tubes from him have been flawless. He doesn’t post NOS on his website you call him and tell him your needs.

Guys If I keep the EML tubes I'll need bright DAC. Should just sticking to my iFi Zen signature DAC be good enough? I would like to buy used and have a feeling for Schiit. I'd even look at
Chinese brand.

Thanks

Been a long time since I heard one but my definition of a bright DAC has always been the Yggy.

Lots of dislike for the EMLs due to support issues, but they do sound damn good in my WA5-LE.

I'm currently using EML 300B-XLS, EML 274B Mesh, and Sylvania 6SN7 3-hole "bad boys". (Random note on the bad boys... I bought them off ebay a number of years ago for dirt cheap from a guy just selling them as regular 6SN7s, but they're NOS and so pristine. I was so proud of myself I couldn't bring myself to actually use and sully them, haha, until now. They sound so good, but it's still a pain point knowing I'm de-NOSsing them)

You won't disappoint, bright is in their signature (delta sigma dac from Chinese brands), especially SMSL. Personally I'd prefer something from topping though, d90se is strong in term of price/sound quality without being too bright like SMSL dac.

I used the Sophia Electric 274B with good success for years in my WA5. If you have the budget(and from your signature it appears you do)the Takatsuki 274B is generally considered the best out there today. I have tried KR and Western Electric in my WA33 EE but neither sound as good as the Tak.

Thank you! I will look for Tak. Hard to find two at reasonable prices

I was able to catch an amazing deal on Takasuki 300B's in classifieds so I jumped and surprised that they sound good to me after being told I may not like them as they are smooth. They are smooth but it makes listening to the amp easier no dull or veiled tone just does not scream at you. It's more like correct amount of tube and solid state where it does not sound too much of either. So if the KR are too solid state and ELM too tubey get these for your high end tube purchase. These are more in line with the tube they designed with. To add more top end get bright drivers. Currently tried Shuguang CV181-z and my NOS matched pair silverton/rca 6sn7. Both drivers stay smoother but don't take more away from the Taks.

A bit late to the party… better late than never, these finally arrived after a long wait. I have only the stock tubes, but already enjoying. First tube amp.
