Woo audio GES vs HeadAmp KGSS.

Dec 8, 2007 at 2:50 AM Post #2 of 64
It looks like these two amps are not popular enough that someone might have both at the same time.

Anyway, I'm looking for an affordable amp to feed my Omega 2, and have read that the Stax amps are not the best for the O2. I wonder how the GES or the KGSS handle the O2 comparing to the Stax SR-727 ?

i know spritzer likes the KGSS for the O2. and cantsleep used an O2/GES combo for a while.

I sealed a trade deal with Cantsleep. I might hear my O2 with GES next week...

Somehow, I love the liquidity of tubes. I thought about the Blue Hawaii, but it's out of my budget range. I picked the GES for the tubes and I was lucky enough to do it with a trade. If someone can do a shootout between KGSS (Or newer version) and GES, and show that the KGSS is superior to the GES, then I can always prepare for the "Next stop".

Anyway, both KGSS and GES are based on the designs of Dr. Gilmore. However, I believe that Wooaudio knows tubes, and I also think that I made the right choice.

I want the Omega emoticon...

Yup Justin. It's supposed to have upgraded internals and also a nicer looking case too! I've been told to expect two revised and one brand new HeadAmp product (KGST?) sometime next year... 2008 is going to be great!!!

I'd rather they waited until I graduated before doing that xDD (broke senior year coming right up)

Any idea on the cost of the new model relative to the current ones?

The HeadAmp KGBH SE have a price tag of $4500, compared to $2500 for the previous HeadAmp KGBH. Only 13 units will be made, and I know at least 11 of them are pre-ordered.

I hope the new price tag justifies the difference in sound quality.

There are some upgrades to the circuit such as a delay on the HV line to prolong the tube life, and better parts used in the stock amp but the simple fact is the original BH was too cheap. Those of us that have one of the originals made a great buy...
