WiiM Streamers Mini and Pro

I'm looking to use Roon and from what I've seen, it's not Roon ready. I thought about the wiim pro, but would prefer to go with the upgrades that the pro plus brings.
Gotcha.
If it makes any difference to you, as far as I understand the only appreciable sonic difference between the Pro and the Pro Plus is the ADC. If you're not using the analog input they shouldn't sound at all different.

According to the website, the Pro Plus has a better ADC, better DAC and lower noise floor:

Yes, but the differences between the DACs and noise floors should be inaudible. ADC should be the only audible difference.
I disagree. Clock, circuit layout and DAC chip can all make a sonic difference. A good example would be my Schiit Modi 3 vs. my Modius.

According to many owners who have both the Pro and Pro Plus, on their resolving systems the differences between the two DAC stages are anything but inaudible. There have been several related discussions on the WiiM forum site, which gets probably 5 times the traffic/engagement from owners than this one does.

the WiiM Pro DAC has a pretty bad SINAD, yes. If you listen at elevated levels with headphones (for instance) and dynamic music, you are very likely to hear the noise during quiet passages.

On a different note, I switched to a Pioneer VSX-LX505 AV-Receiver, that has Chromecast built-in and lets me stream Tidal directly.
And I also learned that my B&W Zeppelin air has a friggin mini Toslink input inside the AUX jack.. So I might end up moving the WiiM Pro to the bedroom to feed into the Zeppelin.

Okay, so I now have a second Wiim Mini that has decided to stop playing 24/192 over optical. I have again tried it with multiple optical cables that have no problem pushing 24/192 to other devices and I have tried the Mini with other DACs that have no problem receiving 24/192 from other sources just to make sure it isn't an issue with the DAC.

Honestly, I have very few tracks or albums coming up in that resolution anyways and both of the Minis have no problem with anything 24/96 and below. Both of them worked with 24/192 for several months before they quit and Wiim had no problem replacing the first one for me quickly and free of charge. I don't think I'm gonna bother with it again, but I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue?

Just for the record, I dust regularly, both optical ports still have their "doors" on them, and I always replace the protective plastic caps on my cables when they're disconnected. Last time the Wiim rep I spoke to said it was an issue they had encountered after a firmware update and my firmware did update again recently, but because of the relative rarity of 24/192 albums in my library I didn't notice the issue immediately after that update so I don't know if there was any correlation with the update this time. 🤷‍♂️

Just use the toslink cable that came with your unit. It should work. Wiggle the connections on both ends.

I have tried it and several others all of which have no problem transmitting 24/192 from anything other than the Mini. Thanks for the suggestion though! 👍

May I ask which streaming service you are using?

I posted a similar issue where Qobuz and Tidal have no issues with 192 but recently signed back up for Amazon as a test and it's a no go.

Static sound on 192 even though other services have no issue with this rate.

I am also looking for my original cable that came with the Wiim

Cheers!!

Qobuz for me. I heard about the Amazon issue and was wondering if they ever figured out what caused it. Guess not...

Thanks for responding appreciate it!

I have heard of this issues but never ran into it till today. Using same cable all along with the Wiim but had no issues until trying Amazon HD.

I will do more research.

Cheers!!
